Thank you, Baton Rouge, for your immense support and patronage over the last few years. We have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the growth of Mid City and an integral part of the Goodwood Village community. You welcomed Mid City Craft with open arms and showed us overwhelming encouragement. With that being said, we plan to close at the end of the year. We are happy to have had the opportunity and the experiences that come along with providing a local neighborhood bottle shop. We look forward to our next venture and hope to see you in the next coming weeks through the holidays. Cheers! #midcitycraft #goodwoodvillage #thanksfortheloveBR?? #onwardandupwards

Oh, was confusing them with Mid Tap which will probably close it's doors soon too. Did Mid City Craft have anything special or unique on the shelves?

they had a very good beer selection but nothing that other places nearby didn't have. The liquor selection was sparse. Wine selection was decent and well priced. I was really hoping Gabe could have succeeded but with Calandros and Martins both within a mile or so, they were bound to struggle.

quote:No, but it was a nice bottle shop. The owners were very friendly and willing to talk with all of their patrons. They hosted free wine tastings every Thursday and at least 1 other event each week. I guess they weren't getting enough foot traffic even with the run club helping to promote and starting just across the street.

I would gladly pay and extra couple bucks to a shop like theirs for owners who love interacting with their customers. I'll miss this place.

Not really. That's not to say they didn't have decent stuff.. but you could get most of it elsewhere too. Some of our grocery stores have just as good a selection and do not require a special trip.
On the flip side, 3Tails is fantastic for anyone who hasn't checked it out. They have unique wines I've never seen anywhere else in town.
They also have really awesome kitchen/bar gifts. And they have a cheese cooler + meat slicer. I cannot emphasize how cool this shop is and I encourage all to visit.
EDIT - I do hate to see this place close because I love the idea of local bottle shops like that. I just imagine that is hard to sustain in BR where everything is legal in grocery stores, unless you have a significant amount of product that can't be found elsewhere.

I'm real bummed out about this. We went there a lot.

Im going to miss Mid City, but ill admit that With Calandros and 3 Tails as close as they are, they were bound to go out of business. Scott at 3 Tails is awesome and so is his entire staff. I too encourage everyone to go check it out

I wouldnt really call it a special trip if you're going there on purpose. I'd rather go support a place like that than the rude people at calandros

That's exactly what she means by "special trip" tho. You are going there only for that, which is an additional trip separate from the grocery store.
Went to this place only once. Hate to see local businesses close, especially when the owners seem to be good people, but I just couldn't justify making a trip all the way to Jefferson when BinQ is right by the house.
ETA: edited to say she, sorry LL

Believe me, I of all people agree with you. But your average person who isn't overly concerned with supporting local shop buys alcohol at the grocery store.
Add in that we have Martin, Bin Q, and 3Tails currently catering to the local shopper, someone is bound to fail. I just don't think there's the % of BR residents valuing that experience to support that many specialty shops.
I hate that too, but it is apparently the case since they're closing.

Just off of Government near S Foster

It's in the same complex as White Star.

The guy who owns it actually also owns Mouton's, the bar in White Star

This is inaccurate. I know him personally. He just runs the bar for White Star.

Apparently margins on package beer are so poor that if you price competitively as a strictly package store you pretty much can't keep your lights on. Places with other sources of income can charge less, and that's where the consumer will go.
