Hypothetical: Oklahoma had dropped a 2nd game during the season. Who is #4

Say they lost to Iowa St. but still won the Big 12 as a 2 loss Champ. Are they still #4? Do they get jumped by the Ducks or UF?

Considering the committee ranked Georgia 5 and Oregon 6 I assume they would have flipped that as Oregon 4 and Georgia 5

Mullens said the committee actually debated UGA and OU for the 4th spot, so I’d guess UGA in this scenario.

UGA has no argument. Lost to a shite USC and got raped in SEC champ game

I don’t trust a word he says. That was all lip service

UGA at 4 then OSU gets the #1 seed to avoid a LSU/UGA rematch.
This place would have literally fricking exploded.

But why isn't Oregon ahead of Georgia regardless of Oklahoma's results?

beat a team that Oregon couldn't

UGA would have move impressive wins with ND, Florida, and a win over Auburn who beat Oregon. Oregon also lost to a mediocre/bad Arizona State team.

Utter bullshite, they only say that because "well folks, there was absolutely zero drama whatsoever and this was as cut and dry as we've ever seen" doesn't generate discussion.
A 2-loss non champion will never, ever make the playoffs.

And depending on which other team Oklahoma had lost to, and timing of loss, Oklahoma would also be in the conversation with Oregon and Georgia. But it definitely wouldn't be Georgia, if the seccg had the same result

id say the team at 5 would be 4 if this happened. it's a pile of shite at that point, but it's probably UGA

That would mean Memphis, Boise, or App St. under the hypothetical situation proposed by the OP.

What the committee has said indicates Georgia. But what they say about #5 vs #6 is very different from what they would have said about #4 vs #5. It's free for them to say that Georgia is ahead of Oregon (or vice versa) when the two spots have no bearing on anything--neither were going to the playoffs and both were going to their conferences' premier bowls no matter which number they were given.
I honestly think they would have caved to optics and politics and put conference champion Oregon at #4. I kinda think they did that when they put us at #4 in the first place, and I definitely think they would have done it had the choice been Oregon or Georgia. People had enough of a meltdown in 2017 when 11-1 Alabama went over 11-2 Big Ten Champion Ohio State. Imagine the meltdown when the same thing happens but the SEC team has a second loss.

In theory you’d have an immediate rematch of the SECCG.

What really would have been weird - what if UGA never blew that game to South Carolina
The entire SECCG would just be a glorified scrimmage

quote:probably, not a slam dunk. As long as it was close, you'd be correct for sure. But the way that game went, they might have struggled putting Georgia in.
