I'd put several others ahead of Garth in the country music genre. Garth did a lot of crossover. Shameless for example, is not country music but it sure drives the ladies crazy.

Clint Black is more Country than Garth. Hank Sr and Jr. Conway. Cash .... although he is crossover too. Haggard. George Jones.

Garth is Garth but he ain't all country.

Charlie Pride and Charlie Rich are both more country than Garth ... although they both did a lot of gospel too.

I watched that special about Garth recently. I never really go back and listen to his stuff and it hasn't been on YouTube. His music is not holding up. A lot of it is corny and I cringe listening to it. Most of the ballads are alright. But I couldn't listen to him for more than 20 minutes before I ran out of songs that I would like.

Strait has like 50 number one hits and his music has aged very well. Just better music and a lot more of it..
