Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. Does anyone know where I can get an inspection sticker with a cracked windshield? Insurance doesn’t cover the replacement and it costs a fortune I just don’t have. The guy I was getting my sticker from died in a car crash last year. I live near LSU (unfortunately) and it’s a police trap nightmare for inspection sticker stops. Anybody know anyone that can help?

I might know a guy, but he would not like it for me posting his info on a message board in response to a Narks first post

Does the crack impede the driver's view?

Not breaking the law, literally just asking for suggestions for places that’ll overlook a crack in my windshield, jeez

Test drive a car... take one off the car... pass on said test driven car... replace your sticker

It doesn’t really impede the driver side, it’s a long crack on the driver side that goes from top to bottom but not across. I went to an inspection place on Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge that was recommended, but they turned me down and said I’d need to get the windshield replaced and then come back.

I’ll sell you mine for $50 and I’ll get a new one. Let’s make it happen.

Go to a mechanic that does them - not a chain business.

Hard to say. I had about a 2-3 foot crack in my last vehicle's windshield and it passed. None of it was directly in front of the driver though.

I went to the inspection station on Old Hammond near Millerville.

ETA-it's called King Z Automotive. It's a 25 minute drive from LSU but you may want to try them.

Take a shot, they are usually liberal or at least in NOLA. Might let you slide, they aren't
looking for more work as we know.

Unless it’s some kind of exotic vehicle, a new windshield should set you back no more than $150. There are signs around BR that lead to Jazz Auto Glass (or something like that) with any windshield for a buck and a half. They used to be $99 iirc, and I had them replace the windshield in my wife’s van. Price exactly as advertised and no issues with their work.

Even if you don’t get a windshield, I’ve heard that glass shops sometimes come into possession of slightly used inspection stickers that somehow fail to get passed along when the owner brings in their car for glass work. May or may not have had a client who dabbled in such matters back in the day.

Yep had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. I tried another one off of College (where that gas station used to be near the interstate) and was denied there as well. Had to end up getting the windshield replaced unfortunately. All because some fricking 18-wheeler kicked a rock and hit my windshield while driving on the interstate. Now I have PTSD while driving behind those bastards.

Good luck with the Old Hammond inspection place.
