I know the week between Christmas and New Year's Day is the most crowded time of the year but is it actually possible to get anything accomplished during that week? Anybody have any personal experience going around that time? Not looking to go this year. Just asking in general.

Never think of this idea again. You will be better for it.

A few years ago I went about December 5-10th and it was awesome. Barely any lines, got to do everything. Watched the conference championships at some bars and they still had Christmas stuff up. I recommend then.

It’s not just most crowded but is it not the most expensive also? I can see if you are up north and it’s miserably cold usually.

As said if you are staying off property with relatives or something I can see going, I just don’t see the point in going there during Xmas. I don’t mind people and I enjoy people watching, but Disney gets old waiting in long lines all day. The fun is killed for me.

To answer your OP ive never been at Christmas but I’ve been during other peak times.

The other question is are the resort pools open? Maybe too cold? Because some of the resort pools are amazing and a very fun with kids when it’s hot and busy. Not so much if it’s cold.

Usually, if you wait 1 week after thanksgiving week, it is wide open. When we got there, the doorman said, "Y'all are here the best week of the year." It was.

I've been that week, twice, both times were over a decade ago though (before my kids were born).

Dec 26 was very crowded.

Dec 27-29 was extremely crowded. 30 min lines for bathrooms, 45 min lines for food, 60 min lines for every attraction not named Carousel of Progress or Hall of Presidents.

Dec 30 was miserable. Huge crowds everywhere, tough to find a spot to sit down or relax, even to eat.

Dec 31, well. MK closed the gates at 930 am, the only way to get in after was if you were hopping from another park. People were sitting on Main Street at 1 pm for the firework show. It was hard to find bottled water. Lines were insane.

And... as someone said earlier, you are paying the absolute peak prices of the year. So you are spending tons and tons of money, and can't do anything but stand in line.

Can you accomplish stuff? Sure, a few rides in each park, some food, etc... but it's all going to take a long time to do.

My ultimate Disney World trip would be from the week after Thanksgiving until right before kids get out for Christmas, staying at Wilderness Lodge. The weather is usually great, crowds are low, and nothing beats WL when their Christmas decorations are up.

Trust me. Don’t do it. If you must, go around the 18th or 19th and leave no later than the 26th. Spend the 25th in Epcot because it is the park most able to absorb large crowds. We’ve gone this week several times and it works out OK if you book your fastpasses at 60 days to the second and rope drop each morning.

I just got back from going last week. One of the days we were there was their busiest of the year so far. Magic Kingdom was the only place that felt really crowded. As someone else said, Epcot hardly felt crowded at all and I had no problem doing everything I wanted there. Animal Kingdom had some long lines (Avatar) but if you plan your fast passes right it isn't bad.

Overall, for being a busy time of year, I thought the crowd level wasn't too bad.

Note: We don't go often at all (my last time was in the 90s) so I don't have much to compare it with.

I would also recommend the week before thanksgiving. We were there the 16th-21st. All the Christmas stuff is up and the lines are minimal.

We went about 5 years ago; Sat to Sat, 20th to 27th. Christmas was on Thur.

The first part of the week was not too crowded but around Wed Disney began limiting admittance due to the crowds.

We rented a house that slept 12 and it cost twice as much the week we were there, and the next week, as compared to most other weeks during the year. We ate breakfast and most dinners at the house; lunch in the parks.

We also did Universal, Sea World & some went to Tampa to Bush Gardens. Most of us went to Disney for 3 days, some went 4.

The weather was great. We went then due to grandkids school.

I think we did everything we wanted to do but most of us were at Disney on Sun, Mon & Tue before it got really crowded. I think the economy is better now so more folks may have $ for Disney now vs then.

We went two years ago with an 8 year old and 2 year old. Had a great time. Christmas Day we were at Epcot and they had a nice Christmas musical. We arrived on the 20th and left on the 26th. The weather was great. Christmas Day MK reached capacity.

Drank around the world at Epcot. The German restaurant for lunch was good. With a beer flight.

I'd go back at Christmas. We did the Mickey's Christmas party at MK one night and they closed the park to those who didn't have tickets to the party so we were able to do a lot more.

I’m at Disney this week. Here’s the thing: there is no such thing as a hack to scheduling for a dead week. The higher ups are not stupid. When they are usually dead, Disney schedules events to fill the parks up. This week for instance, they had some cheer competition and the Pop Warner Super Bowl, as well as the Gary Sinese Foundation (anybody wearing a shirt had an unlimited fast pass to every ride.) You may get lucky every now and then, but you’re not gonna “out-expert” Disney.

Talked about this with a cast member this week. Another thing they do is offer incentives to certain foreign countries where they are on break right now (during what used to be traditional “dead periods”.

My family meets at Disneyworld almost every year, the one thing I veto is going around Christmas.

I did it once, never again. There are just too many people there.

I brought the family over from Madeira Beach Thursday. Did The Mickey Christmas Party last night. Had the Minnie Mouse desert party for the kids and had primo seating in the garden for fireworks. Park was fine. We did space mountain x2, mine train x2, Mickey race cars, Peter Pan, and Haunted Mansion. We had no fast passes for last night but never waited more than 20 minutes in line.

Kids are swimming now and we are heading to HS tonight for Avatar, SlinkyDog, and Star Wars. Also want to hit the river lights ride.

We have always done parks during the day except for MK so this round is exciting just for change of scenery.

Staying at Polynesian because that’s the only place to stay imo. Character breakfast tomorrow at Ohana before we head to AK.

We will close down MK on Monday night and head back home Christmas Eve. I love being less than 2 hours away.
