Everytime I ask about Freemasons online, there would some random Freemason popping out of no where and saying that it's a club for old men who like to drink and play golf. Now, that's a bunch of baloney if I ever heard one.

This is basically the truth. They sometimes engaged in charitable fundraising to keep the ruse up, lest the hatchet wounds they married catch on. The agenda for most meetings entailed heavy drinking and enthusiastic Playboy exchanges.

That's what it was when my grandfather was a member.

It' a club for old and some young men who know old men and or happen to be sons of old men to go to a place where everybody knows everybody to play golf and drink. Mostly drink. And it's open when others are closed. How do I know. I am one. Sorry to pop your conspiracy bubble.

Like many things in this world, the first question is what was it and the next is what is it. For everything from Chick-Fil-A on down to the SBC the two answers are usually different.

Well, what do you think it is???

Side note - alcohol is pretty much across the board banned at blue lodge functions (within the US), and although I know some brothers who like to golf, it’s pretty rare that we get together for that purpose.

You would have to be invited to join to get the real answers to your question. However, I have studied up on it a bit prompted probably by the movie National Treasure. They have a long, long history and today's Mason's have little similarity to the Stone Masons of eons ago. Some pretty bizarre rituals and secrecy out the wazoo. Interesting though.

If you are serious about your inquiry, we studied a book in Sunday School a long time ago and it may be out of print or several editions from what we used but there is a pretty short book that covers several cultish like groups; Fast Facts about False Teachings. Pretty quick read.

Masons don’t allow alcohol in the lodge.

If you want connections, this is the club to join. Very affluent people in the ranks, a lot of connections to be had.

I just want to join a club that has a secret hand shake, similar to this:

For the most part its a fraternity for adult post college men.

It's for charitable causes, socializing, making connections, and promotes bettering yourself as a man.

Also lots of drinking and golf

I only know 2 things about the Free Masons:

1. The only guy I know IRL who is one is about 70 years old, sits in the gym lounge drinking coffee and playing with his cell phone for an hour, then shopping at KMart in a scooty poof. But he's a very nice guy.

2. It's a central part of a terrific movie, 'The Man Who Would be King'. It claims that Alexander the Great was a Free Mason.

They support the Shriners Hospital for children. Their charitable work is pretty significant.

They also drink a lot from what I’m told.

Keep asking and you won't be around much longer.

They don't like questions.
