I’m not buying electric until they figure out the range on these things. I need 1000 miles before I even take a look at them.

I'd say 30 miles. Maybe.

Same with the Tesla wedgetruck.

The drop in range for a given load will be very similar to the drop for a traditional ICE truck.

There are legit reasons to shite on EVs, but anything to do with towing is NOT one of them. Electric motors have gobs of torque through the entire RPM range. You can pick literally any other aspect of an EV and have a more valid complaint than this one.

9 to 10 hrs every other weekend or every couple of weeks during hunting season.

I drive a 2017 F-250 now and it has a 400 mile range per tank. Takes 10 minutes to fill up and take a piss.

I would guess than less than 1 in 1000 vehicle trips are that long non-stop, so no, EVs are currently not for you. Until they decide to add an optional battery pack in the bed, or a trailer, that is. But that would be such an expensive option at this time that it wouldn't be worth it. Though it would be nice to have that extra battery capacity around the house as standby power when you're not on a long trip. It could probably power your whole house for a day or two.

Tesla's supercharger stations can give half a charge in about 20 minutes. For comparison, you fill your truck at about 40 miles per minute, while a supercharger would give about 10 miles per minute. It's slower, yes, even a "lot" slower, but it's not absurdly slow IMO. And yeah you'd have to plan your route around the stations, but there is a surprisingly large number of them already, and I wouldn't be surprised if quick charge stations are as ubiquitous as gas stations in 10 years. They are much cheaper to install and take up less space than gas stations. Hell, many public parking lots already have "slow" chargers.

I think your typical "family" trip is already pretty feasible with an EV. You're going to be stopping every 4-5 hours anyway for meals, and it's not hard at all to find a place where you can charge in the parking lot without making a special trip to a station.

All that shite’s fine and dandy but what you need to ask yourself when you pick out one of these vehicles is which one will most efficiently crash my mini wheats.

And BTW, that's one helluva fuel bill for hunting! 10 hours one way, 1200+ mile round trip, and 15mpg in your F250, you're looking at over $150 every two weeks. Damn near $4k per year on fuel.

For comparison, an electric truck would cost less than $1500 per year for the same miles traveled. You could save $2500 per year on fuel!

I've already done the math. An EV can crush my mini wheats 3 times as fast as an ICE vehicle, and as a bonus my hands will smell significantly less like gasoline while I'm eating them.

I don't know why Tesla went full retard with their design
I thought the same initially, like a lot of people did obviously, but even after just a few days it's already growing on me.

Once I heard that the body panels were 3mm stainless, I knew that was the reason that it's not "curvy" and smooth like most vehicles. It's just too hard to work. But I didn't think about the best reason for the style of the truck until doing a little research just now, and it is related to why the price is so cheap. They don't need the typical huge, expensive stamping machines to produce the body panels. Instead, the body and frame is produced with much smaller and cheaper brake presses. They also don't need a paint shop. These things are going to be cheap to produce.

This also means that it's cheap to change the shape of the truck, so hopefully they can do something about the long sloping rear and make it horizontal like a typical truck before production.

So the design is almost strictly utilitarian, and that kind of speaks to me. It almost doesn't matter what it looks like.

That F-250 is for hunting only. When you factor in all my expenses for hunting since 2017 it’s easily over 30k per year when you include guns and glass.

You do you, bro.

But I bet within a decade you end up with an electric Ford truck. I know ICE vehicles will be produced for many more decades, but at the rate things are going I honestly believe that even the most hardcore requirements will be met by an EV in 10 years. We probably will see that thousand mile truck.

From the costumes, I would guess Logan's Run, but I don't remember that being a TV show.

I guess I think about worst case scenario. Having gone through Katrina and other events when power was out for extended periods, I'm partial to a gas powered vehicle.

The Rivian has a 400 mile range per charge and takes 15 minutes for a 80% charge. So you can take a shite if you want.
It will also blow the doors off of an F250. 0-100 in 6 seconds.

Tesla. Precisely because it doesn’t look like every truck on the road.

The tailgate/ramp and ability to drop the rear end to load is far more useful to me than concerns about not being able to go more than 500 miles without stopping.

I want it in black.

Can you charge the rivian at a supercharger? I am under the impression that you will have to charge it at home.
