Where is the power coming from that charge all these cars... oohh yea burning fossil fuels. Dont be fooled into thinking all this electricity is made by wind turbines and solar panels. Look if officials really wanted the cleanest, most efficient power generation there is, there would be nuclear power plants everywhere.

oohh dont forget about all the plastics that had to be made from oil and refined to make all these electric batteries and parts for these cars/trucks. the footprint of an electric vehicle is way more than a normal vehicle.

I love you bro, but all this is pretty much 100% bullshite.

Even IF 100% of the electricity to charge your vehicle is from burning fossil fuels, the power plant is about twice as efficient at turning fossil fuels into miles as an ICE vehicle.

And the amount of plastic used in a vehicle is orders of magnitude less than what gets burned over the lifetime of an ICE. Like it's not even a drop in the bucket. Just one tank full is likely more than the amount used in plastic. But yeah, plastic is extremely useful. Shouldn't we stop burning so much of the stuff it's made from?!

Towing what, yard equipment or a boat?

No truck company post their mpg loss while towing

Getting towing loss info on a ICE is relatively easy though. Even a new engine will have a comparable metric to rate against.

You have to admit, this is likely the largest concern on an EV as a towing vehicle.

kork....i took this as a shite on the battery capacity. not the torque in electric motors.
I got that, but it's a non-issue. If an ICE vehicle gets 400 miles per tank without towing and 250 while towing, then an EV that gets 400 miles per charge without towing will get about 250 miles per charge towing that same load. That was the counter to his argument. I just went on to other reasons why it's not smart to knock an EV for anything to do with towing.

But there won't be a supercharging network obviously, but that goes for every vehicle that isn't a Tesla at this point.

Once the big 3 start their EV rollouts this will be solved relatively easily. 3rd parties will step up quickly to fill the gaps.

How long does it take to fully charge an electric vehicle
Depends on the rate of charge and your battery's capacity. If charging at home, it'll probably take all night for a full charge. At a station like a Tesla supercharger, it might take an hour to an hour and a half to go from empty to 100%, but it would only take about 20 minutes to get to 50%, and maybe 40 minutes to get to 80%. This is because the rate of charge needs to slow down as the battery's capacity approaches 100%.

The 400 mile range is probably closer to 150 miles if phone/laptop battery estimates were used

Musk is talking about putting solar panels on the truck's bed cover. But if not, any EV can be charged with solar if you have the setup at home. It was just a response to the guy worried about catastrophic events. If you really want to be self-sufficient, you need an EV and solar.

I drive a 2017 F-250 now and it has a 400 mile range per tank. Takes 10 minutes to fill up and take a piss.

Fwiw, if any of your routes are along a supercharging network route, you can get as much charge as you need for your trip in 15-20 minutes.

Just a matter of how often you want to stop for 15-20minutes.

No

I am under the impression that you will have to charge it at home.
Correct. There are also non-Supercharging stations pretty much everywhere around town nowadays, and I'm sure the Rivian will have the correct type of charger or adaptor to charge at those, but those are obviously not nearly as fast as the supercharging network that a Tesla can use.

because i can take thet ICE vehicle and drive another 250 towing a boat after 3 mins of refueling. the EV will take 12 hours before you can go another 250

At home, 30 miles per hour fill up time.

At a Supercharging station, 15-20 minutes to go from, say, 20% back to 80-90%.

are Ford diesels that bad on fuel?
My 2500 gets 21/25. I'd have to put a fully loaded trailer behind it to get down to 15.

I'd say 30 miles. Maybe.
Likely a lot farther than a comparable non-EV truck.

The Tesla doesn't look like it can be picked up on radar.

Honest question, as I see many asking this, does Ford/Dodge/Chevy post a truck's miles per gallon when towing?

I guess I think about worst case scenario. Having gone through Katrina and other events when power was out for extended periods, I'm partial to a gas powered vehicle.

This is a fair point, but it could be argued that it could be easier to find a spot to charge than to find a gas station with gas during certain disasters.
