My new truck was stolen last night. Curious how other people have turned out in the situation.

Twice as a kid. Both times at Mardi Gras.

Were the keys in it or did they have some other way to get in it and start it?

Pray it's not found and you can just get a new one.

File a police report. Can’t you track it? I thought all the newer cars were tricked out with electronics that you can track via GPS.

Depends on the car.

It's probably in a container by now.

When I was a kid our Suburban was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Atlanta. The cops found it a few days later in a neighborhood the insurance adjusters refused to go to. My dad picked it up from a tow yard and on the way home he threw a Raffi cassette out the window in disgust because he thought it was a rap album left by one of the thieves.

Twice, once in Dallas. The car was recovered they did some damage to the interior, had it all repaired.
Same car was stolen in New Orleans after I moved back.
Insurance paid me for it and a few weeks later I was contacted that the car was found. It was trashed and I told the police I didn't own it anymore to contact the insurance company

Yes, then it was totalled in a police chase.

Bought another one and installed a gps and a custom fuel line kill switch that shuts fuel off. Its hidden, and if it somehow is miraculously started and taken, unless flipped over it will "run out of gas".

I had a giant, uniquely painted OTR glass rack truck stolen. The bastards drilled through cinderblock walls to get it. It turned up three months later at a truck stop at the Florida/Georgia line.

It's still a mystery why they took it and then left it there. It took work to get the truck, and it ain't exactly joy-riding material.

How they got in:

all new vehicles come with onstar

it lets them turn the camera and microphone on to see and hear who is in your truck and the exact gps location to tell the cops where to go get it

unless they are really stupid, its already stripped bare to an empty shell and you will get it back as just a bare frame

PS - this is why i dont buy new, i dont want anyone to listen in and see me without my permission or track my location and movements. any future purchases i make will have the onstar BS gutted and completely removed from it before i drive it

Yes. A few weeks later, it turned up with scratches from being driven through the desert a lot. Insurance totaled it due to scratches, but left title clear. I took it to a detailer and paid $250 to have it buffed and detailed inside. Came out perfect.

So, I got a $4750 and my car cleaned.

Get the club though.

Can also be used for road rage purposes. Or for the prostitute to get herself going while you find a place to park.

My mom's car got stolen. She left the keys in it. Cops saw some teenager riding around in it later that day. He ran it off in a ditch but there was minimal damage.

Once, a truck. Had a nice lady call me after seeing my card with my number on it.
Doubt she came out to watch us take it back, but the rest of the hood was loud
and proud, albeit not into stopping us.
Wagon wheels were the thing brah.

I had my truck stolen from an off base facility used by military guys to store vehicles while on deployment. Arrived one day after getting back to get it and they were like

To this day I don’t know what happened to it. It was a Toyota, so maybe Al-Qaeda got it as a gift from John McCain.

Yes about 20 years ago. Stole it from out in front of my house and it was found four days later out in New Orleans East. Had one of those gang banger family memorial t-shirts and a half a bowl of cereal in the back seat when the insurance agent went to see it at wherever it was taken to after that.

Turned out it was professional thieves as all they did was remove both airbags, and two other things and that was enough for it to be declared a total loss. Good thing for me was I had had it for sale for two months and the insurance company gave me more than I had it listed for.
