Fair catch on kickoffs

Maybe already discussed, but why did we fair catch every kickoff in the bama game? Seems like every kickoff came down around the 3-5 yard line.

Confidence in our offense.

Why risk fumbling the ball when you can get it at the 25 yard line??

For the very reason it was adopted...starting at the 25 is a good option

the likelihood of us taking it 75 yards for a touchdown outweighs the risk of turning it over. or getting it at the 20, 15, etc etc
tl;dr version- they can't fricking stop us

Because O would rather take the ball for sure at the 25 rather than risk a fumble or being stopped short or returning it all the way for a TD.

Why risk a fumble or unnecessary injury to CEH when our offense has a damn good chance to march down the field and get a TD? Not worth the risk for an extra 5 yards IMO.

In my opinion, it's because when you weigh out getting the ball on the 25, guaranteed vs the opportunity for Alabama to make a big momentum play with a big hit or even worse, a turnover, you take the ball on the 25.
We are in a new offensive mindset. We don't need to rely on the additional yardage we could potentially gain on a good return. We just need the ball. They (and I mean all of they, everyone we play) can't stop us.

It's been clear all year that LSU believes in it's offense enough that we simply don't take any risks on kickoffs. This is the reason Helaire is back there...ball security. There are more explosive players on our team but none that we trust at handling the ball as much as CEH. If the ball is inside the 5, we fair catch every time. Next year that may change a bit. Would not be surprised to see Palmer and one of the true freshmen back there next year.

I love Clyde and he is a beast...but Clyde ain't taking a kickoff 95 yards to the house. Take it at the 25 and let the offense go to work.

College football is slowly getting soft like the NFL. Hope I am wrong, because the NFL is unwatchable because of rules changes.

Cant have CEH getting injured. Way too important at this stage of the season

So don't fumble it.
That is such a stupid excuse.
That's like saying why attempt a play when you get in the redzone, just kick a FG and get the points before you fumble or throw an interception.
CEH shouldn't be returning kicks either b/c he's not good at it.

Saban has always instructed his kickers to try to pooch it up and make it land inside the 5 so they can pin you deep.
I know that rule grinds his gears that its useless now unless someone is dumb enough to run it out

we didn’t. Clyde returned one for about 20 yards.

I am sure they have analytics that tell them the chances of returning a kick to the 25 or better based on where the ball is caught. Probably a rule to fair catch it if you're within a certain yard line.

Wait, am I missing something? We fair catch at the 5 yard line and take possession at the 25?

We don’t really have an explosive returner back there so it makes more sense to simply trust your offense that is the best in the country over risking a game changing fumble.

Yes. You can faircatch in the field of play now and get the ball like it was a touchback

We've got one in the bag if needed I think. Maybe a lateral from CEH over to JK.
A) if needed, and only if needed
B) only if they see enough on film where the chances of success dramatically go up. That might be lulling teams into complacency when they have a kicker that gets lots of fair catches but not out of the back of the endzone.
