But does google have any obligation to not promote their own products?
A lot of these companies are essentially
Monopolies because of consumer choice

Exactly. It's not as if Google went and bought out all the competition. They just beat their competition.
Nobody HAS to use Google, or any search engine for that matter. Expedia and Trip Adviser can advertise their website and people can go straight to their website.

BKNG beat earnings
No mention of it in that fine piece of journalism.

With their target market, you have to keep things very simple.

yeah that's kind of like a Russian Doll
Expedia and Trip Advisor are using their market share to dominate Google rankings against non-Google competition
so are they arguing the results should be random? SEO companies are about to lose it

They own about 90% of the search power. That in itself is a monopoly. They use that power to crush any competition they face in any business they get into.
Including politics

Great example of the lack of self awareness on both sides, and why some people cannot discuss politics with any degree of intelligence.
You avoided anything to do with the OP and went for low hanging fruit.

What do you do to break that up?
I use google because I prefer google to yahoo and any other search engine.

I hate Expedia. They have ruined VRBO.

JJbot will assign you the search engine you are allowed to use. Please do not resist.

Much like my post will be avoided. Such is the nature of this site.

And product like Facebook were connectivity is the point, how do you break that up?

I just performed a search for best restaurants in my city.
Google result was first, then TripAdvisor second, then Yelp was third.
Maybe TripAdvisor and Yelp would benefit by not requiring you to download their app in order to read the damn reviews?

If the government went after Microsoft for favoring their own web browser, then it seems only fair to go after Google for favoring their own booking sites.

Everything the regular American does online is done through a few companies companies. Amazon, Google, and Facebook. Purchases, email, search, entertainment, The majority of it goes through them.
That’s a scary thing as those companies control everything that would influence your way of thinking. We’re primed for the communist takeover.
I’m a free market guy and agree they do provide the best services, and ultimately that’s why they are so big, but it’s scary as heck to see.

nah... they just bought most of them and kill them some time later. there is a break point for each of these business entities that roll this way.
