NY HS Coach Suspended: Team Scored Too Many Points

When the Plainedge Red Devils extended their rout last week of the South Side Cyclones with a fourth-quarter touchdown, it was a crowning moment for the winner of a big game between unbeaten high school football teams on Long Island.
Nassau County has an unusual policy designed to prevent lopsided results in football games: If a team wins a game by more than 42 points, the winning coach must explain to a special committee why such an outsize margin could not be avoided.
With that last touchdown, Plainedge pushed the final score to 61-13, putting the team in violation, and subjecting its coach, Robert Shaver, to a one-game suspension.
Blowouts happen everywhere, but in most places, according to Bruce Howard, an official with the National Federation of State High School Associations, the issue is handled on the field by letting the game clock run or by simply stopping play.
Lopsided Win - Coach Suspended

Good god that is pathetic.

Maybe the other team should take pride and stop them.

Hope coach O gets suspended after next game then.

You put in the benchwarmers and ask them not to play hard. That sounds logical.

They follow through with meatless mondays? Or was that just jibberish to shut up the retards for a while?

Ridiculous. That is an insult to the losing team.

61-13 would have been a pretty average Friday back when St. Paul's had Nilo Silvan

Never ever step off the gas.
If you can win by 100, then you do it.
Winning is winning.
Winning because your team is better is not unsportsmanlike like

Well, back when I coached a 4-6 yr old rookie league baseball team, the innings were set at a 7 run rule. If my team scored 7 runs in an inning, whomever was next up at the plate was the last batter.
I see why at that level the rule was established along with 1:15 time limit because one team could literally bat the entire game or the game may end up as a one or two inning game.
The HS rule of using punishment when a score is exceeded is ridiculous. Does this make the losing team feel better? Hell no!

He didn’t play his benchwarmers. He was still running his first string in the 4th quarter.
That said, not a fan of the suspension. Chances are karma will eventually get him on pulling that stunt when someone takes out one of his starters in frustration.

The other coach needs to be suspended indefinitely for not fielding a team that can make a stop
