New Bosses tell Deadspin Staff in Leaked Memo: Stick to Sports

“To create as much great sports journalism as we can requires a 100% focus of our resources of sports. And it will be the sole focus,” Maidment said. “Deadspin will write only about sports and that which is relevant to sports in some way.”

I'll actually admit I had no idea Deadspin was supposed to even primarily be a sports site. I had always assumed they were a political/general news site.

It used to be a great sports site and was a daily visit for me. Now, I couldn't tell you the last time I went to their site unprompted

Deadspin used to be great. I liked their sports coverage. It wasn't a daily read or anything but it was entertaining.

Also, it is pretty obvious that their numbers were telling them the same thing that ESPN's were:

I enjoyed it in the early days as I felt like there wasn't much keeping the ESPN monolith in check. But, that AJ guy stalking ESPN talent at the Super Bowl and reporting on their activities was the ultimate in creepy. Anyway, the Barstools of the world have replaced them.

I’d imagine it’s too late for deadspin. I used to follow them and check their site pretty regularly. Now I don’t even follow them on twitter. They went way overboard with the political stuff and I didn’t want to see it.
