People who get face, neck, etc. tattoos that are visible are one thing. But so what if I want to get my ol lady's name tattooed on my lower back. It's my life!

Speaking of lower back tattoos. I'll tell ya a funny story.
My twit sister in law gets a lower back tattoo of.....Wait for it....Waaaait for it....Waaaaaaaaait for it.......Ok, now.
Her 12 year old son's name. No shite, she did that. She turned her son into a fricking bullseye. So every time my brother in law fricks his gal from behind, he gets to look down at his 12 year old little boy. His name's got wings and shite all over it. This fricking drool cup of a human being made it a point to show it off to anyone who wanted to see it. Everyone of course cringes when they see it.
People are the best.

Well tattoos don't determine wether or not i respect someone. I just find it fascinating how ordinary and conforming the act of tattooing has become.

I think you're stuck in pawpaw's mindset. Tattoos aren't considered nonconformist by 99% of the people that get them. They're just images that people like, or that have meaning to that person. It's mostly decoration.

They do it simply because so many are doing it and have convinced themselves that it’s cool.
There was a time when ink was truly an expression of various positions: strength, sacrifice, devotion, etc. now? Not so much.
The dog of war, Semper Fi, etc. still have that mystique for the people that have lived/earned it. Beyond that, it’s not only trashy, it’s a bit pathetic.
Lastly, ink does not honor the fallen, your actions do.
