The CEO of Dick’s Sporting Goods is quietly exploring whether to launch a third-party presidential bid after he gained national attention for banning assault-style weapons at his stores. At least one focus group in southern Wisconsin was presented with various messages centering on Ed Stack, a longtime Republican donor, according to Politico. The group was presented with possible three-way matchups that included the billionaire businessman, President Trump, and former Vice President Joe Biden or Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Stack, who has taken a stand on gun control by eliminating the sales of assault-style rifles from his stores in the wake of the 2018 Parkland, Florida, school shooting, criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this week for failing to bring to a vote a bill that would require universal background checks for gun sales.

I mean, he tanked his company's value by a few billion so he'd fit right in up there in the swamp.

Agree, but mark my words; the dems will find a third party candidate to strip votes away from Trump.

I thought Jill Stein had become the proverbial third party candidate? So in essence this guy will be a fourth party candidate. Will run on the BS ticket, aka, Bump Stock or Bull shite.

This crap gets thrown out there to see if it gets any traction in hopes of stripping Republican votes away from Trump. Then, inevitably, they realize Republican/Conservative voters are strongly behind Trump and you never hear about these dildoes again.

Only the media and "Republicans" like Mitt Romney, John Kasich and their ilk think there is some kind of large hidden group of voters just desperate to vote for the loser Republicans of the last decade or so.

Claims to be a Republican donor yet is a gun grabber.

Doesn't add up.

"Dick" Stack's company has completely tanked since early Jan. 2107. (Stock drop $40 per share, though it has rebounded a bit recently). He might be looking for a new gig

Why would any Republicans vote for the CEO of Dick's?

Very liberal family. The grandfather who started it all off as a bait shop was an extraordinary gentleman who was a great advocate for sportsman in NY. The subsequent offspring are not. Clubs and hunting groups near the Binghamton area that knew what was going on with the company before the move to the Pittsburgh area quit spending money there long before the gun shift. Family members still in that area still run for school board, local positions and even congress a few times do so on the D ticket.

I am going to be generous and assume that you are unfamiliar with the extensive record-keeping and reporting requirements regarding political donations. He is all DEMONSTRABLY a huge donor.

yet is a gun grabber.
Not everyone is a knee-jerk absolutist on gun issues. It is entirely possible that he (like many Republicans) supports the second amendment, while believing that it does allow for the regulation of certain categories of firearms. That does not make him a “gun grabber.”

Wisconsin
This part of the discussion is actually interesting. He is exploring his options in an important swing state. That may well provide some evidence in support of the conspiracy theorists Who claim that his candidacy is intended entirely to usurp Trump.

What exactly is a "universal background check?" I've had my background checked every time I've purchased a firearm. Does this mean transfers between family members, etc, would require a 4473 and a NICS inquiry?
