quote:
Before the turn of the century, each decade had its own identity. Everything from music, styles, and general mood of the pubic was distinctly different from the decades before or after it. We can see or hear things from every decade from the past at least 7 or 8 decades and immediately know which decade it’s from because they each had their own identity.
But this decade and the last decade before it seem to have nothing to differentiate between the two and in fact other than politics and technology advancements, have no identity of their own at all.
What happened?
clothing, music, movies, etc have all changed from the 2000s
You just got old and are not as aware of any of this anymore
that is what happened

Did you not experience the 'Great Recession' in the last decade or were you just going to school? I went through it as the main bread-winner with a family, working in the real estate development industry. No fun, no job, no money coming in and I was too old to get a 'lower' level job. Luckily, I got a temporary Independent Contractor job with the US Forest Service in the dark days due to an ARRA (American Restoration and Recovery ACT) inspecting maintenance & repairs to facilities. A lot of people consider that 'socialist welfare', this Republican was just glad to have a job then.

I’ve thought about this too and I agree. There are some small differences, but the general style is the same.

The federal government used 9/11 to grow somehow into an even bigger and more monstrous leviathan than it was before that day.
And the internet, which was probably the most important invention of all time, has somehow made us dumber. We have a tool right at our fingertips that could be used for so much more good than what we use it for now. We have billions and billions of sites that we could go to and learn something (I consider this site to be among those, most of the time) yet we settle for SpongeBob memes and trolling. And people want to say that the internet is great for reaching across borders and bringing people together. I’ll argue that isn’t a good thing for the world at large. People are diverse and they coalesce in their same groups for a reason.
In reality, all this information has made us dumber.

2010s will be known as the comic book movie decade.

2000-2010:
Comedy was an actual thing.
Good Science Fiction being created.
5% of incoming calls are bullshite-artists.
People view food as a source of nutrition.
Decent music is made in moderate quantities by a few artists.
2010-2020:
Comedy is extinct.
Science Fiction is extinct.
95% of telephone traffic is robots harassing humans.
Most people are terrified of food.
We've been enduring an artistic Dark Age.

A bunch of pampered, participation trophy receiving pussies are coming of age.
They've got away with this behavior their whole life,or they wouldn't be acting that way now.
They need to receive some bad consequence for bad behavior.
Nip it in the bud.

Nickelback may have put the final nail in the coffin of rock music last decade.
Rap music has certainly taken over as the most popular music in America. And that sucks.
