I am looking for a good knife sharpener. I have about $100 in free amazon gift cards from points from our health insurance plan for being active.
It would be mainly used to sharpen filet knives to clean fish and kitchen knives.
Thoughts on the Warthog and Work Sharp?

I have the Ken Onion Worksharp. Spend the extra and get it. Works great.

This.
At the beginning of hunting season I pull out my Worksharp and sharpen every knife in the house, including my shovels and machete.
The wife cuts herself on the kitchen knives doing the dishes and screams every other day. She hates it because it makes them too sharp

I have the Work Sharp and thinking of upgrading to the Ken Onion edition. They're so easy to use.

I recently purchased the Ken Onion Work Sharp. I'm pretty happy with it. I have some S30V and D2 knives that were a nightmare to sharpen on a whetstone. The Work Sharp makes it quick and painless. I can get them shaving sharp in about 5 minutes no problem. It's also great on kitchen knives. The only thing to watch out for is rounding the tips off. If you pull the knife all the way through you will mess the tip up.

Arkansas Oilstones The old tried and true

I watched the old gentleman at Bass Pro sharpen some knives with the Ken Onion, but they have an extra attachment they put on the ones they use.
That thing makes razors.

I have been using a Warthog for about 10 years now. Nothing but good things to say about it.

What is the extra attachment?

An extra guide; I'm not exactly sure what they called it, but they had them for sale.
If there's a Bass Pro or Cabela's near you, I'd go ask them to give you a rundown on it and show you all the ins and outs. It looks super simple, but they do it every day.

I have every kind knife sharpener you can imagine-Worksharp,Warthog,Crocksticks,Arkansas stones,on and on.I like diamond stones better than Arkansas whet stones.Sharpener that works well is Rada R119-Read about it in Louisiana Sportsman magazine.Might not use it on expensive knives but it works well on run of mill skinning and kitchen knives. It’s cheap also.

I have chef choice electric sharpener. It’s awesome.
3 stage system that takes the blade from 25 degree to a 15degree angle like sushi knives. It’s not cheap. About the same as the ken onion sharpener which is also very good.
Frankly, I’d want to have both. The ken onion would be good for other blades like axe or machette.
Just have to deal with changing the belt

I've always been told that a knife can't be too sharp, dull knives get people hurt.

I have the 2 warthog v-sharp curve and love them. Been using them for years.

just get a whet stone. dont worrk too much about the perfect degree. after you rub your own angle, all you have to do it rub it a few times every so often.

I bought the Warthog and don't use it any longer. At the time that I bought it their website was down with a statement that they had closed because of faulty materials. Tried to get in touch with the local supplier through his personal page figuring my stones were worn out - no response. Noticed lately that each side of my everyday carry seemed to have a different angle and a pronounced burr. I talked to the guys from backpacker (at a local show) and they told me that the springs wear causing one side to sharpen at an improper angle.
I just gave up on it and went back to my Lansky system. The Warthog was really quick when it worked but it sure messed up a good knife.

Coming to post the same. I have a few oil stones and a diamond encrusted plate for sharpening my chisels and plane blades in my shop.
I also have an Irish Linen and Leather strop used to honing straight razors that puts a hell of a finished edge on any blade once sharp.

The Ken Onion Work Sharp gets my vote too.
If you don't already have one, get a leather strop and some compound to run the blade over after you sharpen it.
