Again, this is where you bank on Riley/Pache/Waters making a jump.

Pretty risky though. I think you have to fix the catcher position and get another bat in the OF. Sign a middle of the rotation starter and then try and see what's available in July in terms of the TOR market if you are as good as you hope again.

I don’t disagree, but name 3 catchers we should go after this winter.

This is just as risky, if not more considering you have two top 100 OF prospects on the brink of getting a call up, plus Riley.

Hell, if I had to guess which three players we get more production out of in 2020 between Duvall/Joyce/Kakes and Waters/Pache/Riley, I'd take the latter. Which is cheaper and has much more upside.

This offseason should not be about standing pat, it should be about making that next step. We've gotten bounced out of the NLDS two years in a row, the expectation has to be progressing past that and it starts with bringing in a 1A pitcher to pair with Soroka.

I would prefer a real bat in the OF like Marte/Ozuna/Puig to pair with Acuña. I don't think Pache will provide much offensively, at least next year, and I think Riley may be dealt the way AA was talking last week. I like Waters but he has serious split issues and he's still very young and hasn't performed at AAA yet.

I would like to get a TOR arm as well but I don't think there is one out there that makes sense at the cost.

Catcher has to be addressed no matter what imo. I think the offense (outside of Acuña/Swanson/Albies to a lesser extent) was a bigger issue than pitching down the stretch. There aren't more than a handful of guys in the NL this year I would rather have start a game for me in October than Soroka. Plus you have Fried/Folty/Wright/Wilson/Anderson and whoever you can add like a Wheeler.

We were 2 bloops and 4 outs away from getting to the NLCS this year and objectively I think this roster is better than the Cards and pretty close to the Nats. I don't think you need to panic and start taking a bunch of risks to try and push through. The window will be open for a long time. We have the most valuable asset in the sport locked up for a decade. Do we need to improve? Yes. But we don't need to take unnecesarry risks until we are proven to be a little closer to the top imo. This team is about a 92-96 win team as currently constructed. Continue building and if you're running away with things next summer then overpay for whatever you think will put you over the top if it makes sense. I don't think now is the time for that.

To clarify about melancon and Greene: I mean they aren’t worth what their salary is. Combined it’s about $20M correct? There’s got to be better value out there

How would I go about it?

Maybe D’arnoud at C?

I would try my best to trade inciarte for prospects in the offseason. Wait on Pache and Waters to come up. Also should try to move on from Julio. I’d rather have somebody like Felix Hernandez who at least was great at some point.

Sign either Puig or Ozuna or Castellanos.

Resign Donaldson. Absolute must.

For pitching I’d go after Cole if he’s interested. Also I wouldn’t mind Bumgarner I just think someone will overpay for him and that will put us out. If he’s attainable and doesn’t hurt our getting other players then by all means go get him.

If the bullpen arms are affordable then I have no problem bringing them back. I’m not sure what their market value will be

Who is trading for Melacon and his 14 million dollar salary? We would have to send a prospect to get rid of him, or eat salary to get anything back.

How much are you going to pay him? Let me remind you that he is a soon to be 31 year old catcher just coming off his best full season, and catcher is a weak position all across baseball.

Melancon was just a bad move and we are going to pay for it it seems like

I meant I’d rather have a Felix Hernandez instead of trodding Julio Teheran out there for another season of 4 decent innings and then get fricking destroyed after that night after night

I know D’Arnaud would be cheaper than Flowers

And just to clarify I said somebody like Felix. Take a chance on an old arm that used to be great and maybe a change of scene does some good. Instead of bouncing our heads against the wall waiting on Julio Teheran to not suck
