Hopefully the embarrassment of the Nats dunking on our NL East title will wake our owners/FO up and spend real money this offseason.
You don’t spend it for the sake of spending. The Nats were home grown for the most part.

Tough pill to swallow

Outside of Cole no one worth signing and no one worth trading for unless the Red Sox decide to fire sale and make Sale available.

Not only have they made it, they’ve done it before we even have won a playoff series. All east teams have been to the World Series since we won a series. Pathetic.

I’m not even mad they won it. Team of destiny

They spent to get Corbin and Scherzer.
Meanwhile, our biggest FA signings have been 1 year deals.

Tomorrow is deadline to exercise or decline options on Flowers, Markakis and Teheran.
Predictions?
I think Flowers will be exercised and Julio will be declined. Markakis 50/50 imo but I really hope it is declined.

I can see them picking up Flowers.
I’d say 70% chance they pick up Markakis.this potentially gives us 5 OF....Acuna, Enciarte, Kakes, Riley and Duvall. And a couple of youngsters in the minors. The Braves definitely have some decisions to make here.
50-50 in Teheran. He’s a dependable, back end of the rotation, regular season starter that will take the ball every 5th day. I would rather they decline his $12m option and go after Wheeler and Bumgardner.

Julio does not help you win a WS. He only helps get to the playoffs.
I know you have to make the playoffs to win a WS, but I just don’t see how it makes sense to pay 1/12th of your salary to a guy you know you’ll leave off the post season roster.
Spending big, relying on one of the young arms being dependable, or signing a veteran inning eater on a cheaper deal all make more sense

we are at a point now where we shouldn't need a guy like Julio in order to get to the playoffs. our roster should ve strong enough as is to simply get there. the FO's goal needs to be to build a team capable of winning the NL.

I can already seen the spin coming from AA now after he brings back all three.
"Last season showed us that we're right there with the best, we won the pennant in a division that had the World Series champ. So why not bring back the same roster and keep our financial flexibility?"

So we re-signed Kakes and Flowers to cheaper deals.

The #Braves have re-signed free-agent OF Nick Markakis to a one-year, $4M contract, sources tell The Athletic.

Correction: #Braves handled Markakis same as Tyler Flowers. Had option with buyout that team declined and then re-signed him.

Braves have declined Flowers and Markakis’ options and re-signed both for $4M.
Strictly procedural in both cases.

Not really cheaper. They are both getting 6 mill.

Both got $6M, just have lower AAVs attached now and procedurally only $4M counts towards the budget.
We essentially exercised both options.

Source: The Braves will bring Tyler Flowers back with a 1-year, $4 million deal. Because Flowers' $6M option was declined, he received the $2M buyout. So, he's still getting $6M. It's just an accounting procedure that allows for just $4M to count toward the 2020 payroll.

Very disappointing bringing back Flowers. Strikes out a lot,Hits into lots of dp's,can't throw out runners, lots of passed balls and hits for low average. Batted 229 this yr after batting 227 last yr. But lol they say he's very good at framing pitches. AA and him must be very very close.
