Doing it for some tax revenue. That sport would have to drop out of the NCAA and play an independent schedule, players would have to know that they can never win a championship of go to a bowl game. It's possible that if the football team where to drop out and do this, the NCAA would attack another sport or all the other sports at that university. So really the whole program would have to drop out. I'm sure there are a few universities in Cali that do not rank high in any sport, that university could maybe go for it!

Piss on that. If the majority of these athletes didn't get scholarship money they wouldn't have the smarts to stay in school on their own. If anyone pays college football players it should be the NFL. College ball is a free farm system for pro football. Baseball and basketball have farm leagues and/or summer leagues to do their bidding for them. Do you as a taxpayer really want to pay college athletes for their services? Remember, only a small percentage of colleges are profitable when it comes to their sport's finances.

USC and UCLA will be battling for the California state championship unless the NCAA changes their rules. California has no jurisdiction over the NCAA, so unless the NCAA has a major change in their rules to allow the same thing nationally, then they would just prohibit all those California schools from competing in NCAA events due to rosters full of ineligible players.

They would have to. The California law doesn't say schools can't prohibit only football players from signing their own endorsement deals. Nothing would be stopping players in other sports from doing the same thing, although they'd probably be more limited in opportunities.

California Senate Bill 206 would upend that balance. If the bill becomes law and California’s 58 NCAA schools are compelled to allow an unrestricted name, image and likeness scheme, it would erase the critical distinction between college and professional athletics and, because it gives those schools an unfair recruiting advantage, would result in them eventually being unable to compete in NCAA competitions. These outcomes are untenable and would negatively impact more than 24,000 California student-athletes across three divisions.

Title IX will probably jump in the middle of this, too.

How are they going to pay a *5 QB more than they pay a girl on the tennis team.

Just more BS from Cali that they never think out.

Pay them to be athletes and offset the expense by limiting the amount that the scholarship covers on -room, board, meals, fees, and tuition.

They can enjoy their "salary" and the subsequent bill that comes with attending college like most other students.

Good.

I can't wait for the NCAA to boot all the California schools Refuse to follow the rules and you don't get to belong to the organization. Plain and simple.

Why shouldn’t a college player get paid to use their name and likeness? That’s all this is. Not schools paying players.

What about the kid who had a YouTube channel and lost his scholarship because of it? Why can’t a player have a YouTube channel?

Will they have to pay taxes on their education now. Technically without the school allowing you to play and getting that exposure your image isn't worth anything is it. Your scholarship then becomes an integral part of your ability to make money and I would say tax the scholarship also.

Can CA athletes even travel to away games in banned states? Ya know the states that reward normality and don't pander to the mentally ill.

All CA paid state travel is banned after all to several states. Those states should make it a priority to invite CA based teams to bowl games.

They currently use private funds to travel to those states.
