TRUTH!

and the Patient Satisfaction Score/Survey that dictates a facility's reimbursement is another thing that has indirectly fueled the opiod crisis our country is in - which leads to the OP about the abundance of narcan and it's effect on society.

I would argue heroin, oxycontin and fentanyl are a bit worse than narcan.

You're saying you would rather an addict just kill themself rather than having a chance of recovery. That's some Mein Kampf type ideology

I see you can't argue without this ridiculous attempt at labeling someone literally Hitler.

Which is why my solution is perfect. You get Narcan one time. After that, we take the nerf padding off of the brick fireplace corners

We are required by the city to keep it on hand in our brewery in case of an OD on the property.

Myself and the rest of the managers also had to do a mandatory training on how to administer it.

I doubt I'll ever have to use it, but I don't mind knowing how.

I can tell you that I know a bunch of assholes who have been hit by it and they described it as the worst withdrawal feeling they have ever had because you go into full WD in an instant. Also if you could abuse to get high, They would not give it away for free and junkies would be lined up for miles to get there pack to the 12th time this hour.

I believe a lot of people have there facts wrong about Narcan as well as believe it’s the same thing as Suboxone, which it’s not.

you are absolutely correct. And sadly, who would do far worse than that as well. But that is not person who is in recovery, who has dealt with the demons in their past. That is not a description of the people that I am referring to, that I know personally. (I want to sort of throw this out there but feel a little unsettled about it in this thread.)

Just throwing this out there--being in rehab =/= being in recovery. We had a customer we had gone to bat for numerous times, tried to work with him while he was in the depths of addiction even though he would disappear for weeks at a time with no way to contact him. Goes into rehab and then proceeds to screw us over in a really egregious way. Was the first personal experience I've had with addiction-thankfully there's not a history of that among my family and close friends, knock wood. I'll think long and hard before I get involved again on a personal or professional level with anyone with a substance abuse problem of any kind.

I can honestly say I know 2 people who have OD’ed and died, neither of which I talked to on any regular basis

How is it that you folks know so many junkies who have been saved?

Maybe, I've just gotten to the point of accepting who I am worts and all. Also, I have a pretty good firewall around my real identity. My username was carefully stolen from some overweight USL fan who like to blog and I throw in some diversionary shite every once in awhile.

But yeah, my kids even say the same thing...that I talk and share to much

I understand completely. Discernment and boundaries are crucial for me as I work with those in recovery. I am not involved in the rehab side of their journey.

You made up that first comment.

I work in healthcare and to say that "every doctor, nurse, and EMT you've spoken to thinks it is the worst thing to enter our society" is just a lie.

Maybe you've spoken to a single, exhausted ER nurse or EMT that is tired of this, but every healthcare provider (you said you've spoken to many)?

The answer is false.

You meet a lot of these people if you go to treatment centers.

what I posted was only partially tongue in cheek, I've done a fair amount of voluntary work with our union's, er, association's EAP, it's okay to own it and be yourself, but that doesn't mean you have to be a walking talking billboard about you being in recovery, you still have to tcb keep it up, sounds like you're doing great though
