That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

I can’t say I ever got the chicken at Irene’s.

I can understand why it would seem that way based on my quick description, but it is an extremely famous dish, and for good reason.
They roast the bird whole with a layer of foie gras and black truffle stuffing under the skin and then, since dark meat takes longer to cook than white meat, they carve it before continuing to cook the dark meat, which is served in a totally separate preparation.
You might say it's a lot of pomp and circumstance for a chicken dish, but we're talking about Daniel Humm, who is also chef/owner of Eleven Madison Park, former #1 restaurant in the world.
It's the best chicken dish I've had by a fair margin, so I just thought I would share it here.
Back to Nola, I would add Blue Oak's wings and Ideal Market's Pollo a la parilla as good lunch options.

Chicken Clemenceau at Muriel's is an old school Creole classic.

Gautreau's? I am going there Saturday night. I usually don't consider ordering chicken in top notch restaurants, but I have seen Gautreau's chicken recommended on here several times recently. Should I get it? What are some of the other recommended dishes since the new chef took over?

Josephine Estelle has a great chicken dish that features a nice breast plus thin slices of chicken andouille.

One of my favorite chicken dishes to eat while out at a restaurant. I hardly ever get chicken at a sit down restaurant, but Mosca's is the exception.

I almost always do especially on the first trip.
A good/great chicken dish is a good indication that the chef has talent and vision

Do you know another way to find out if a chef has talent or vision? Order a dish, in the restaurant you are seated in, that is creative and form your opinion. No indication required.
The best chicken dishes in NOLA would be wings from Tan Din or Blue Oak.

Best chicken dish I've had was at Saint-Germain in NOLA. It was with fermented greens, blanquette and BBQ Tomatoes. Holy shite. Their menu changes monthly though.

McHardys is so overrated it’s not funny. Just locals pretending to have a local little known secret. There’s not a single time I’ve eaten McHardys and thought, “you know what, this is better than Popeyes.” Not a single time. I will go further. McHardys serves tiny pieces and poorly cooks it. I put them on par with Church’s
Some underrated chicken dishes:
Rotisserie chicken at Houston’s. Houstons used to do a great grilled chicken breast that’s no longer on the menu.
Chicken parm at Rocky and Carlos as well as Impastatos is impeccable.
Never disappointed with the grilled chicken at Pho Tau Bay.
Chicken dishes at Rue 127, rip, were always phenomenal. Probably had the best chicken I’ve ever had.
Chicken Clemenceau At Galatories is okay
Chicken piccata and positano at peppermill are surprisingly good.
Chicken cob salad at chick fila is the best chicken based salad in the city.
Irene’s, already mentioned, is good.
