Thank you for your professional opinion. That sheds a lot of light to what has been discussed. Some make it sound like everything is gonna be perfectly fine, and that never made sense.

Oh, frick the Gumps.

Of course

There's a small chance the torn ligament is the one on the opposite side of the thumb, as in the one that is intact in this picture.

If it's the radial collateral ligament, the recovery would be quicker and have less impact on his throwing/touch.

So, if Brees get a good hand job in LA he will be fine.

It’s been all over local news for the past few days. There’s a great article on nola.com with a hand specialist from Tulane explaining the injury and the surgery. They will indeed go in with a synthetic type band to act as the ligament while the ligament heals.

They also mentioned it’s an outpatient procedure.

Only question in my mind is do they bring him back the week before the bye week, or give him that extra time so he can get his timing back. Obviously, how we're doing as a team may have more to say about that.

by sml71 So some doctor has made a prognosis based upon media reports instead of upon personal examination? Sounds legit...

Dr Chao is legit as they come. He was the head team doctor for the chargers for 17 years. He watches videos of injuries and makes a call on what he thinks happened. He's almost always right. He called the Brees torn UCL minutes after it happened.

I posted what someone on SR said stating THEY had some insider named Coach Pete. Like I said, no different than posters sharing “sources” on Twitter.

You know damn well anybody posting Swimmer's news is either trolling or clueless.

So like any and all Saints fans, I want Brees to be healthy and play. Getting a glimpse of post-Brees era was scary.

That being said, there will be doctors that will paint this injury as "no big deal" and then others that will be a bit doom and gloom about it. It appears this article picked a doctor that would err on the optimistic sides to give us fans some hope.

My biggest concern will be him returning and re-injuring the hand simply by just playing QB. We've seen QB's smack helmets during passes and then of course him getting his hand slapped by defenders.

This is really uncharted waters for Saints fans. Brees has been the pinnacle of healthy throughout his stint with the Saints and this is the first time we are seeing him truly injured.
