Business Casual for a job interview.

I have an interview in the morning for a sales job with a software company. The HR rep said “business casual” attire. Am I ok to wear slacks and a button down? Should I add a tie? Seems too hot for a sport coat.
Side note- she said that a beard is ok, so that makes me think the sport coat may be too much.

no coat, no tie
Think this, but less douchey.

Why wouldn’t a beard be okay? It’s sales, not working the H2S fields like a roughneck.
Button down, slacks, and add the tie. Doesn’t hurt.

Beard or no beard has zero to do with whatever you wear .. In the business world, it’s becoming more common to have a beard than not to have one- regardless of whether the attire is business casual , or three piece suit, or whatever.

Clean up your beard and wear a tie and jacket, IMO.

They are testing you. Overdress for it.

If she explicitly said this, wear a coat, slacks, and button down.

Skinny rolled chinos, slim fit untuckit, cardigan, chucks. Bowtie if you feel like peacocking.
Tell those boomers it's 2019 and time for them to retire if they give you guff.

I've seen HR get interview information, schedules, dress and other aspects wrong before. Do your research and put your best foot forward. Don't put your success in someone else's hands.

I haven't worn a tie for anything in 10 years, including weddings and such. Its a relic and fashion appendage I choose to ignore. frick that noise and frick that shite. No tie even for board meetings.
Just don't vomit on someones shoes.

I wore flip flops because I figured that they wouldn't look at my feet. They looked at my feet.

I have interviewed a lot of potential employees over the years, I have never viewed wearing a suit to the interview as a negative, for all I knew the person may have just come from another function, or interview that required a suit, but I have viewed being dressed too casual as a negative.

What people are you meeting with?
If it's anyone from your potential Sales Manager or above, do not do business casual.
Never trust HR to represent what a VP or C-Suite expects from a boots on the ground professional.
I've almost fallen for that trap numerous times in speaking to the "hip" HR person.
