The Myth of the Wealthy Baw Welder: Welding Won’t Make You Rich

The overwhelming majority of American welders are not earning $150,000 a year. Not even close. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary for an experienced welder in 2018 was a little more than $41,000 a year—which was only about $16,000 above the poverty line for a family of four.

welding has a pretty low salary ceiling. Welders at the 90th percentile of income for the profession, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, earn $63,000 a year before taxes. Those are, statistically, the top earners, and they are usually expert welders with decades of experience.
Braxton's travel ball team can't get dessert at Chili's with this level of income. Those sluggers are going to have to settle for ice cream out of a machine that hasn't been cleaned in 2 years if they can find one that isn't broken.

But I heard that they and 18 wheeler drivers make up to 200,000 K a year
Posted on 9/13/19 at 3:46 pm to Big_Sur
I'm sure they based this on a 40 hr work week

What about plumbers though?

This falls in line with the welders that I know. Those baws sure can make that 50K look like 150K though.
They'll also be working until they're dead.

The good ones who are willing to work turnarounds make damn good money

Welders working turnarounds probably make 100k, I’m not positive though.

That is exactly why no work ever gets done 9-5 M-f.
They have to be called in omnsat and Sunday for that overtime and 2x pay.

I mean, I'm sure you can make a good living if you work a bunch of OT. But is that really living?
Welding/fabricating is actually really fun as a hobby. I've worked in a big pressure vessel production facility and that type of welding would get old quick.
