Carlos Pennywell was the receiver for Shreve in 73' and would go on to Grambling where he would play alongside Doug Williams before being drafted by the Patriots. A little before my time, but having been involved in Shreve athletics since I was a young kid, I've heard all about Penywell and that 73' team in particular. They are still the last public school in Shreveport to win state in the highest classification.

Five first team All State players and a defense that gave up a total of 15 points with 8 shutouts in the regular season.

Would pay decent money to watch a hypothetical game between them and '75 St Augustine.

It looks like the Northshore is hosting a group of ranked teams. It should be interesting. Any thoughts on upsets?

My take...

Mandy over Hahnville.
Holy Cross over Covington
St. Paul over Jesuit
Rummel over Slidell

Mandeville is not beating Hahnville. WTF?

Hahnville is very very good this year. Especially defensively.

That river parish district is filthy thus far this season. Terrebone is overrated but Destrehan, ESJ, and Hahnville are loaded.

75 st aug is still heads and shoulders the best I have seen.

I remember two of my uncles that were coaches talking after a game 72 cs played in NO(which they lost but CP had 4 great catches) that with so few seniors that team would be the most powerful team in state the next year.... but the st aug folks still maintain their team that went 10-0 but 0-10 due to ineligibles was their best... as a ball boy for the other team - Lee H was one of the nicest and coolest coaches I met.

It shouldn't happen and would be a HUGE upset. I picked them because Mandeville may put up some points. Time will tell. On paper I agree, it is a terrible pick. In short, I'm going with a gut feeling.

In reality, of the four only St. Paul should have a realistic shot at winning.

Nope. Total rebuild this year. Defense is good but offense is the worst they’ve had in a decade.

When Pearl River is one of the best teams on the Northshore, you know it's bad

I was at that '80 ESJ Barbe championship game. Great game. Cleveland Cook made the stop on the goal line to preserve the win (Barbe would have had to convert a 2 point conversion to tie if they had scored IIRC). Those Barbe fans were plenty salty outside tbe stadium on our walk back to our car.

Either Peyton or Josh Booty.

Arch is going to be lost without Sutherland next year or God forbid Sutherland gets hurt. That’s his only target.

I forgot about Brock.

Brock, Peyton and Josh all threw for stupid yards in the 90’s. No one ever came close.

He might have the Peyton gene where he makes guys targets... My biggest worry is he gets a target on him. They have to protect him.
