Going to check out the Battle on the Border at Independence stadium this weekend. My Captain Shreve Gators look to have their best team in a while, so I'm looking forward to seeing them, along with some other great programs. Not quite as good of a line-up as in years past, and without Evangel this year, but plenty of good matchup regardless.

didn't they lose in round 2??? I don't care if it was Acadiana and it should have been the championship

Yea wasn't that the year Acadiana was a super low seed due to having to forfeit some games or something?

NO.... they lost by what 9 points in the 2 or 3rd round....

this is how it works... 1980 John Ehret 12-2 two one point losses to the state champ and state runner up(in the semis)..... that's how a team that didn't win in the finals is one of the best ever.....

They switched Kevin Moore to QB at the end of the year and were like a different team on offense. They ended up beating an undefeated Destrehan team in the finals that year. Ponchatoula was good but they weren’t even the best team on their side of the bracket, much less the state.

Here's a low quality video of their Championship win vs Glen Oaks.

Warning: No audio, just music from Queen.

saw them in 72 too.. that receiver was really good.... I think 73 team was one of only 2 since integration to have OFF and DEF MVP and coach of the year in the highest class

I've been saying that to anyone who will listen for the last 39 years.

Perhaps guilty of looking ahead of Barbe in the semis to a rematch with East St John.

...Made it right the next year though.

no weren't looking ahead. got up 14-0 Barbe battled back nice td drive with well thrown passes and great routes. final drive LB was coming up to make a play on ball TE running route collide as ball gets there - ehret called for PI first and goal - TD two point play... ehret did get stuffed on a 4th and less than a yard before barbe's last drive. Barbe was no slouch.....came within inches of beating ESJ too.
