If you have time, take the ferry over to Peaks Island from Portland. You can rent a golf cart and drive it around the whole island, pull over on the side of the road and take pictures or just chill.

The wife and I did that on our trip to Portland and had a great time.

Have your camera ready if you have a window seat flying in or out. I took some fantastic photos of amazing foliage flying out of Maine in the late 1980s that I still marvel at.

My recs.
Stop in the Hulls Visitor Center and talk to the rangers and get a good map.
We (it was me, my wife & another couple) thought that the Park Loop Road was one way the entire length but it is only one way on the east side.
It is two way traffic on the west side - the Cadillac Mt, Eagle Lake, Jordon Pond area down to about where the Wildwood Stables are. Hwy 3 crosses the Park Loop Road but there are no intersections.

We hiked to Bubble Rock and there are a couple of ways to get there. You can park about a mile north of Jordan Pond House and take that trail, or you can hike from Jordan Pond. There are other hikes around the pond.
A couple of views at Bubble Rock (don't know who those folks are in the pic.)

That's Eagle Lake. I don't know what the hike is rate but it is a little more IMO than a moderate hike and the ladies quit about 1/2 up.

On the east side you can stop at Sand Beach and there is ~ a 2 mile walk along the coast line and it passes by Thunder Hole and ends at Otter Point I believe. Or, you can drive and there are parking places at TH and Otter. We drove but we didn't know there was a trail.

Also near Sand Beach is the Beehive Loop Trail. We did not do this, it is rated difficult.

I would eat at the Jordon Pond House. They are known for their popovers and they are very good. We had lunch there and it was all good. We were in Yellowstone in August and their food is not good and I think it is because it is so far to eat out side the park. It is not that far to Bar Harbor and there are lots of places to eat there.

Lunch on the lawn at Jordan Pond House. They have inside dining also, it might be a little chilly in Oct.

There are other parts to Acadia but getting there takes time and with only one day you can only do so much.

Schoodic Peninsula is interesting and we had a good lobster meal at Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bass Harbor but you probably don't have time to go there.

Suggest you may want to visit the Boothbay Harbor area. Boothbay is a great area
with several restaurants open late in the season. Five Islands is a great place for lobster but you must check to see if they will be open. Also suggest a visit to Camden. If you go to East Boothbay stop by the general store. Another good town to visit is Damariscotta.

Wife wants to see quaint little town with character, maybe some shopping & a nice meal.

That’s what I was thinking, I just didn’t know authentic it was. I know it’s pretty popular now

It’s a popular little spot but still a small coastal Maine town. I love it there.

Portsmouth, NH might also be good to look into. Or Gloucester, MA.

Just got back from that area.

Novara Res in Portland has an awesome beer selection.
Arundel Wharf in Kennebunkport had a great lunch.
Stones Throw in York had excellent dinner and a Mezcal Mojito that provided quite the buzz.
Portsmouth, NH is very nice.
Millionaire's Row in Rye, NH has many nice Victorian mansions near the ocean.

It’s colder than you’d think. You’ll be coastal for much of it so the wind will make it colder than otherwise. Still beautiful. Lobster will be about $25-30/lb. and can basically be found in every restaurant you step into. And it’s all good because it’s all local.

Is this true?! I went Summer 2009 and it was $10/lb

Last time in was in Kennebunkport you could by 1.25 lb lobsters at Port Lobster for like $9/lb. Granted that isn't a restaurant, but it is cooked, hot, & ready to go.

Might just cruise down HWY 1 and see what’s up
