I’m going in a month. From Concord (first night) to Bangor (second) via Kanca. Hwy, then to Acadia NP (Bar Harbor third night, then to Portland (fourth night) Back to Boston to catch the flight to MSY. Round trip for two was $275 total.

Any special viewpoints ? Good and cheap! Lobster?

Thanks !

It’s colder than you’d think. You’ll be coastal for much of it so the wind will make it colder than otherwise. Still beautiful.

Lobster will be about $25-30/lb. and can basically be found in every restaurant you step into. And it’s all good because it’s all local.

You plan to drive from Concord NH up to Lincoln, take the Kanc over to North Conway, then drive all the way to Bangor? That's a long day of driving and may not give you a lot of time to see anything outside of the car. Be aware the leaves should all be on the ground by then.

Concord isn't going to have much to see in or around it. Best to get up and out as early as possible. There are natural things to see around Lincoln, but the Kanc will provide you with enough scenery. North Conway has a large outlet mall area that's popular due to NH's lack of sales tax.

Depending on WHEN in the fall the turning of the leaves is fantastic

its sounds like this guy is trying to do a budget. Most of the lobster pounds will be closed, but in their groceries you can walk back to the deli counter and buy a lobster and ask them to steam it for you. They will do this for free and you and the wife can walk down to somewhere and enjoy. it will be less than $10 a #. Also, it will be much colder than you think. its not uncommon to need a jacket in bar harbor for what we consider the summer.

Sorry you’re right I misspoke. Lobster is usually that price on a menu, but that’s probably for a pound and a half to two pounder.

Thats an incredible price! I've only been up there in the summer (Acadia NP) but looks like my next trip will be in fall.

A lot of the shops maybe closing down for the Winter. We went mid-October a few years ago, and all of the little shops were liquidating inventory to close up for a few months. Restaurant hours in the smaller towns were somewhat limited too.

There were hardly any crowds since most of the leaves had fallen, but I really enjoyed the quiet time. We hiked to several lighthouses and overlooks and were often the only people there. We didn't really have a plan, but we stayed near the coast and drove around to the small towns. Definitely an easy trip to do on a budget.

It was still a great trip.

Where are you flying from?

Last time I went, MSY to Boston to the Portland Jetport ( ) on JetBlue was inexpensive and quick.

Are you a Stephen King fan? SK Tours of Maine in Bangor was really good when we visited Maine last year.

If it's anything like Maine in May, bring a lot of warm clothes!

About 19 miles east of Lincoln, NH on the Kancamagus Hwy is Sabbaday Falls. It is a smaller (I presume) version of the falls in the Franconia Notch State Park north of Lincoln.

It is less than a 1/2 mile walk on a paved trail from the parking lot to the falls. Worth the time. It is in the Nat. Forest but they accept the Nat. Park annual pass, otherwise they want you to pay a small day use fee. There is another stop closer to Conway; it is Rocky Gorge. It is not as impressive but a shorter walk from the parking lot.

That's a lot of driving. We were in Maine last August and went from Portland to Bar Harbor (4 nights), then back to Portland then to North Conway, NH, then back south.

It was not crowded when we drove the Kanc but I would expect it will be if the leaves are changing.

It is a little out of your way from Bangor to BH but you can drive by the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory and go up to the observation deck.

A few views from the observation deck.
