Does Anyone Own Any American Giant Clothing?

This hoodie cost $104.
LINK
I watched a segment on the news this morning on this company. The segment started talking about how in 1980 80% of clothes sold in the US was made in the US. Today only 3% of clothes here are made here. And because companies have moved their production to other companies, it has cost Americans jobs, etc
So the owner of American Giant decided he was going to "do something about it". He decided to start a clothing line in which the materials are made in America, the clothes are made in America, etc.
That's great an all, but then you end up having to sell a basic hoodie for $104.
The company gets its cotton from a cotton farmer in North Carolina. All of the workers on the farm were on temporary visas and were from Mexico or South America.
The farmer said something like "it doesn't matter how much I offer to pay Americans or what kind of benefits I offer, they just don't want these jobs".
Anyway, how important is it to you that products are made in America?

I’m for it. I bet it is great quality. If you want to pay $20 for some pos hoodie made in Thailand then go for it

I have several pairs of shoes made in the US. Allen Edmonds, Luccessee, etc. They are more expensive in my experience.

Pretty sure my Nike hoodie is made by Phil Knight in Oregon. It only cost $65.

That's what I said..
He isn't paying for cheaper labor because Americans are not taking jobs that he claims Americans will not do no matter what they are offered. If someone could make $60k a year with benefits picking cotton there would be a lot more American cotton pickers.
No one can make a living picking cotton unless you live in a country where things are much cheaper.

Buying American is important to me but the fact of the matter is that it's damn expensive. I've bought a couple of american made shirts and I treat them like fine china which is absurd. More often than not I am buying clothes for overseas though. It's just cheaper.

Lol at the idea that stuff made in America is necessarily better than stuff from Thailand or Indonesia

American manufacturing is a casualty of our advanced service-based economy
thats why your monkey has a job

The reality is that it cost companies less to to make their products made overseas so that they can offer their products at a reasonable price.
Like iphones for example, I am not sure if they can even get all the materials that go into an iphone in the US, but there are products that are bought in quite a few countries in order to make the iphone.
If Apple was not allowed to do business with other countries and had to only use American products, etc.. The iphone would cost about $3000.
But with the company, I can't see how they can sell these products at those prices and be able to stay open for the long term.
I doubt it is a better quality product than any other products out that, that are cheaper. You can probably go look at LL Beans products and find better quality for less.

I never said that.
Like I said, according to the segment I watched this morning only 3% of the clothes sold in the US was actually made here. 3% isn't much so its not hard to figure out that only quality stuff comes from the US and everywhere else is shite.

My wife has several of these hoodies. They are very well made. I've considered getting one for myself.
