A basset hound is a better choice. Very good with kids.

Had one for 12 yrs. One of the most popular dogs of all time. They are very loyal but also can be stubborn. Ours didnt bark for like 6 yrs then I guess when he figured he had gotten old enough he started barking at everything.

RIP Mikey!

We have a few long haired mini dachshunds. Their temperament is way better than the short hair. Way more chill.

Great dogs till they get older, then they start having back issues.

They’re great dogs but have pretty fragile backs. Something to consider with young kids.

My sister (no pics, was a Homecoming Queen) had a miniature Dachshund for around 15 years.

It was a beautiful dog.

It was spawned in the bowels of hell.

Hated most everyone other than her immediate family.

When it finally had the good form to die, no tears were shed.

Avoid.

Good friend of my wife's had a female red dachshund that lived to 14. She was the sweetest dog you can imagine, and I don't know that I ever heard her bark.

She loved anyone she met, but I think she would occasionally do the nervous pee thing around strangers. Not sure if that is typical.

I had a Red Piebald Minature years ago. I loved that dog. He was super friendly with everyone, but had too much energy around other dogs sometimes. He would aggravate them until they snapped at him. He was goofy and had tons of personality. He would watch TV in my recliner sitting like a person and would sleep in our bed on his back with just his hind quarters sticking out from under the covers.

He was tough to potty train and he had separation anxiety when we’d leave him home. He’d chew things to show he was mad at us for leaving him.

My exwife kept him when we separated and he was allegedly stolen when he was at her Dad’s house. I’m not convinced that was what actually happened to this day.

My ex had one. It jumped off the couch and fricked it's back up at 3 years old. I had to build fricking ramps on to all of the furniture because her (my ex's) pussy was that good.

We have three long haired dachshunds. They are chill as hell and no problems whatsoever. Low maintenance. Good dog for children.

Fun fact: dachshunds were bred many years ago to hunt badgers, hence their long narrow frames that can get into their holes(dens). As a result, dachshunds love to burrow under blankets and comforters, especially in the dark.
