Colorado law requires the occupier (or "squatter") to openly be in possession of the property for 18 years, or after seven years of consistent payment of property taxes and color of title. The term color of title refers to some written document that shows a good faith believe that the possessor is legally entitled to the land, even if it fails to carry the necessary legal authority to do so. For example, a handwritten and signed document from 100 years ago transferring a house from one party to another may be considered color of title in some circumstances.

So this is only in certain states right? Something like that happens only because the homeowner allows it to happen.

I bet they leave at gunpoint.

If a cop ever tells me I have to vacate my home and let squatters live there I'm breaking into the cops house and living there.

We are a nation of laws, yet there are times that call for solutions outside of the law.

Seems like a perfect time to tent the house for termites.

There would be no call to the police. They would be shot and buried in the backyard.

People keep saying this and that they would not call the cops...Problem is, the squatters would.

I highly doubt they are going to call the cops. And once they are out the house they are going to have one hell of a hard time proving they were squatting and I illegally kicked them out. Especially without the means of a good lawyer

Incorrect. I bail out of jail. Return. And get them the frick out of my house.
So potentially violating a restraining order they took out? Ok, good luck with that.

Also please link me one time a rightful homeowner has ever gone to jail for removing squatters.

Wait, you're arguing that you could physically assault squatters and get away with it...just cause? Even though the law would disagree with you? I don't remotely understand what your argument is.

It is quite simple. They are in my house. I remove them. And now they are gone. I don’t care if they call the cops after that. A cop is going to knock on my door at my house and then arrest me? bullshite.
Was it quite simple for all the stories you heard about people who took months to get their house back?

I also love the part about "I remove them" because it's that simple.

Let me be very clear. I would accept any and all repercussions that would “theoretically” come my way for breaking the law and removing squatters. In reality, there would be no repercussions. There would be no jail for me. I would just remove them and then it would no longer be an issue.

The good news is, the squatters won't live in your house any longer.

The bad news is, neither will you.

There would be a murder. And a lynching of the DA if they charged me.

Maybe that no one on a jury would convict someone in that circumstance

I didn't shoot squatters. I shot people who broke in while I was there.

Why would you highly doubt that? Of course they would.

Good luck getting them out. You guys make it seem so simple, and yes many times it's just clueless shitheads in your house. But a lot of these legit know the law, they know what they're doing, they go from place to place doing this. It won't be remotely as simple as you all make it seem.

There's 8 people squatting in your house. Why in the world would they not call the cops if you show up acting crazy? Good luck as well forcefully removing all 8 of them by yourself. A gun will help, certainly. Doesn't mean a couple of them won't have guns either.

I know we have delusions of grandeur and it's easy to make a lot of claims on a message board, but the reality would more than likely be entirely different than folks think, and not in their favor.

I would say that is pretty solid evidence that you did not invite anyone else to live there.
