Nah, I'll probably buy it for them. But, I will not be paying their insurance nor putting gas in them regularly.

I dont see a kid being able to afford a decent used car at 16, I bought my kids first car. 10k. She did her part by baby sitting and making hell of a bunch of good grades and got full ride to college.
She just got her first real job, her ride has 150k on it and she gets to trade it in in three months and get her something nicer. As long as the kid is doing the right things in school and being respectful, I plan on doing nice things for them.

Hand me down cars for both so paid for. I pay for insurance and gas unless they are working during the summer and not in school.

We purchased late model used cars for each of our kids when they started college. Paid for insurance and maintenance, but they paid for gas. It was a one-and-done proposition so it needed to get them through college and their first couple of years of work.

Told them I'd match dollar for dollar they saved for the car.

I paid for my son's car...but he pays all insurance, gas and regular maintenance.

No, but it won't be terribly nice.

I bought my first truck, it was a 72 Chevy pickup. 900 bucks. I was 15 yrs old in 2006 when I got it. Rebuilt the engine myself and redid the entire interior. Looked sharp. Loved that truck.
Then gas went sky high and driving 20 min to school and back was killing my parents due to gas costs (it got like 6 mpg) and the truck had no AC and it was hot as hell after 2 a day practices so they finally agreed to buy me a 2000 z71 if I paid for half of it. Then bought me a new truck for graduation because I signed a football scholarship for college

I will buy 1st car (nothing over $5k, with AC). They pay insurance if not in school, so reason not to put school 1st (my parents made me work azz off at minimum wage to pay $200/mo for insurance and gas, averaged 5 hours of sleep a night playing football, working 30 hrs/wk, school, and see my gf for 3 hrs a week). No way doing that to my kids.

My very first car I think my parents paid for it, but it was cheap and a lemon..
So on my very next car purchase (which came quickly bc the motor went bad with the quickness)
I worked and saved up half, my parents met me on the other half of it.
I think this was a nice agreement. And I loved loved loved loved my next vehicle.

Well, my kid don’t have $40K, so...
ETA: I do make him pay $1,000/yr. of the insurance though.

I told mine when she turned 16, that I would pay for 1/2 the car insurance, but she would have to pay the other half.
She ran to googled the insurance rates right away. That was three years ago, she hasn't brought it up yet.

No. Each of my children will get hand me down vehicles until they are able to buy their own. They will be expected to get jobs and pay for their gas and help contribute to repairs etc.

All of mine were given free used cars by relatives. My oldest received a Kia from her Uncle. The middle received an Infiniti SUV from his grandfather and my youngest received an Acura from her aunt. It’s a Vietnamese thing ( Mrs Pimp). I handle all insurance and I pay for college 100%.

i wish he could, but at 17 he’s struggling to find jobs.
damn insurance and workers come ruining everything.
seriously, freaking walmart won’t hire him because he can’t use a box cutter until he’s at least 18 due to insurance purposes
