Weight loss journey and details

Thought I'd share my weight loss journey with you baws. On January 29th of this year I went in for my yearly physical. I'm 42 years old. My BP was 142/112 and cholesterol was 250. The doctor said we are rechecking you in 6 months and if either of the number is high again I'm putting you on medicine. I weighed 229 at the time, and I'm 6'2.
I had a decision to make as I have a wife and 2 kids; get healthy or chance having a heart attack like my dad at an early age (dad has had 2 heart attacks, he's still alive).
2 weeks ago had my follow up with my doctor. I lost 50 pounds, I now weight 180, BP was 114/72, cholesterol was 188, HDL was 53, LDL was 118, and Tris were 84.
I did all this with a lifestyle change. I didn't diet, i changed the way I eat and the amount. I've always gone to the gym so that wasn't an issue. It was ALL the way and quantity I was eating. Sorry for the long post, but yes I'm bragging
I was in 38 size pants in January and I'm in 33 now. Ive shot my caloric intake to 2800 calories and 220-250 grans protein/day. I'm starting to rip up and this is my goal
Any questions on how I did it just ask, I don't want to make this post longer

Good job. How are your joints feeling? I thought my knees were supposed to hurt like hell until I lost 25 lbs and realized I was just overweight

That's insane for not being obese.
Congrats, that's some hard work.

Our stats are similar down to the age! Would you elaborate more on what exactly you did? What was your diet before the change and what did you go to? Thanks for the input as I will need to change too.

Way to fight your way into a better prognosis/situation.
Your kids will see that and learn from it.
I get up every morning and just do it. (Run)

Eating a basket of chips and salsa at mexican, large supreme pizza, fast food, etc. When I started I went 10 weeks at a caloric defiency. I ate 1500-1800 calories a day for 10 weeks. The weight literally melted off. I didn't lose any strength in the gym. After 10 weeks I added 200 calories a day for about 4 more weeks. And every 4 weeks I would add 200 calories/day. I'm now eating 2800 calories/day for the last 5 weeks and haven't gained or lost an ounce.

No soft drinks (I've never really drank them before). I drink a gallon or more of water a day. My first 14 weeks I had ZERO cheat meals and here's why:
Week 1 when I started the 1500-1800 calories I lost 7 pounds
week 2 I lost 8 pounds
week three was super bowl week and I had done great for 6 days and decided to treat myself super bowl sunday and ate super bowl food. I lost 1 pound that week.
week 4 back to 1500-1800 calories and lost 5 pounds

I also had a heart calcium score done in January. I suggest everyone get one. It only costs $50. My score was a 39. Here is a chart:

Tell you what I did:
#1 No Bread/Potatoes/Rice/Pasta/Sugar/or proceeded foods
#2 Get Carb Counter App this helps you keep tract of your carb intake
#3 I keep carbs at 25 grams but yours should prob 50 grams carbs a day
#4 increase protein intake to 1.5-2 grms per Kg/weight
increase fats in diet like cheese/butter
#5 eat clean---- No fast food except salads grilled chicken or beef with salad. Low carb veggies
Good Luck

Great job.. just want to say though
that is a diet!! a diet doesn't mean eat less. Its a change in the way you currently eat. plain and simple.

Great job. Congrats
It really is all about what you eat.
I'm slowly losing weight (about 2 or so lbs a week lately).
But...several of those weeks I was not even allowed to exercise at all and I still lost weight...cause I really stuck to watching what I eat.
I gave WW (online/app version) a shot just to see if it would help and it's working for me so far.
