Someone kept him posted

The 97 game was over the top loud. But, you have to realize something about that little stretch. We were still extremely enthusiastic because the memory of the terrible, terrible years of the early 90's was still very fresh. Nothing creates excitement over winning like having lost a lot in the recent past. We are pretty spoiled at this point; which is a good thing. It means our program has been good for quite a while now.

Hill was a beast. Played against him in the 5A playoffs his senior year at Brother Martin. He had an interception and Kickoff return for TD. Not to mention he hit like a pro every time.

I was freshman and in the student section for it and almost broke my neck when someone pushed me in the back jumping the fence to get on the field. But my favorite part of the game was the Monday after. I had Jarvis Green and his brother Jason in my English class. I asked them, Man what did Dinardo say to you guys at halftime. Their response - Nothing really just keep doing what you are doing. I remember thinking he must not be a very good coach but I'm glad we won.

For some reason, this statement causes arguments on this board. The comparison to '07 UF, which was a heck of a loud and frenzied experience.

But you are 100% correct, 1997 UF was the loudest, craziest, frenziest experience anyone could have had in Tiger Stadium in the last 25 years. I don't even see it as arguable. As was stated above, the HUNGER of losing was still there, as we were barely out of SIX straight losing seasons.

Also, we had lost to Florida NINE straight times! One of those, I think 4 years earlier, we all walked out of TS and the scoreboard said LSU 3 UF 58. I mean, think about that folks. You young ones... try to wrap your head around THAT!! While you are doing it, picture Spurrier rubbing it in our face, on-camera, on the field, everywhere.

Florida was an absolute juggernaut, I think 25 or 29 straight SEC wins. That's over three seasons of conference wins. No one beat these guys.

Here's how loud that 97 game was ...

I was in the band and marched out for pregame. When we hit those "four notes" that was the last time I could hear my own horn. Now, usually, even in a loud environment, you kind of pseudo-hear your horn because it reverberates some of the bones in your ear and your skull ... so even with loud external noise you can "feel" your own horn sound in your head. Not that night. I couldn't hear myself at all. Then, when we marched down to form the tunnel for the cheerleaders and players to run through, I started feeling a weird sensation in my chest. Nope, not a heart attack ... it was actually the sound waves from the crowd noise moving through the air sacs in my lungs. It was the most surreal experience I ever had at an LSU game. I still have some turf and some goal post foam from that night, but the memory of literally FEELING the crowd noise in my lungs is the thing that has stuck with me all of these years from that night. Nothing else has come close. I've been fortunate enough to attend several big games in the years since my time at LSU, and I've still never seen, or felt, anything like that. 97 Florida is hands down the loudest and most unbelievable football environment I've ever seen.

I started as a student in '91 and suffered through the Hallman years. The '97 season, and the Florida game especially, was the beginning of the rebirth of LSU football. DiNardo absolutely brought back the magic.

It would still take another 6 years to steady the ship, but the 97 Florida game and the 95 Auburn game were some of my all-time favorite experiences of LSU athletics.

Was sitting behind the Florida band. They kept playing well after the teams broke huddle. Gators have always been tacky.

Was a great win because we beat them at every phase of the game.
