Tile recommendations? Have you ever laid tile before? Also, you'll need to rip out the old unit, remove any drywall that is there, put in backer board, seal it up then lay tile.

Subway tile is cheap and always looks good. Though, it does take longer since the pieces are smaller.

It’s a fairly easy job if you want to attempt it.

I have a Mexican man that would be interested in BR

That's not an easy job. Its doable, but definitely not easy and very time consuming.

I've looked into doing mine and may attempt it one day.

I dont think they make a prepoured floor for that.

So you have cut the old tub out. Cut into the floor to move the drain. Then pour a sloped floor around your drain. Then cover it with a (rubber?) tarp that is stapled up the walls. Then pour a sloped floor over that. Then install moisture resistant walls. Then seal them. Then tile it.

It's a pretty extensive project on something that you need daily.

Wouldnt blame anyone for paying to have that job done.

Eta, oh and you also have to build and cement over the small wall that you step over to get in the shower.

James Hebert with JRH Flooring 225 268 1328. Has done floors in two of my homes and my parents as well. Has also installed counter tops, backsplash and currently doing our master bath. He is taking out our shower insert and replacing with tile.

We kind of stumbled upon silver travertine after what felt like a million tile stores and a million tile samples.

It’s beautiful and timeless.

We do have accent tile that runs horizontal about 6 feet up. Maybe 6 inches high.

I recommend two shampoo recessed inserts for the master - the tall ones that can hold shampoo on the top and soap/razors/shorter things on the bottom shelf.

And the smaller tiled silver travertine looks great on the floor. For fanciness where the tile meets the ceiling they also make silver travertine molding.

I got one redone for a friend about 2 months ago. Took out Cultured Marble, replaced with tile.
My friend said, the glass guy asked who did the work, walls were straight, making the install easy.
Let me know if you want to see the finished product.

And if you were to pay someone to do this shower remodel, what can one expect to pay?

I’m currently having this done right now because our shower insert started leaking into the closet messing up the wood floor and baseboards. This has led to insurance covering all the plumbing work and some of the tile shower install thankfully. Between the plumbing, upgrading to a tile shower, replacing the closet hardwood, and then replacing tile on the bathroom floor it’s going to cost us around $16,000. Our general contractor said his standard cost is $7,500 for going from a shower insert to a tile shower.

This is interesting. I’d have never thought of it being covered by insurance but looks like that’s a possibility.

Insurance paid for all the plumbing repair work which included the insert removal, they are paying for any water damage to the closet and walls, and they gave replacement cost value if we were to go back with a shower insert. We are coming out of pocket for the difference for upgrading to tile. In the end it’s going to cost me about $4k out of pocket to get the bathroom remodel my wife wanted anyways so I guess that’s a win for having to deal with all this crap

I just talked with my friend, he said, around $10,000 total.
Now this shower is bigger than a 3X4.
I'll get a size once I see the finished product!

I could do all of the stripping/removal of the old stuff. I wonder if that would lower the cost

I've got the demo part down on most projects

Yes, if you demo, why would anyone charge?
