How well would Trump had done in the Republican primary of 2000?

The primary consisted of George Bush, McCain, & Alan Keyes. Does he beat George Bush? Why or why not?

Not as well because immigration/islam wasn't as big an issue, and manufacturing base wasn't completely destroyed yet.
Also, a significant portion of trump's base (white working class) was still a part of dem party.

He would have had 16 less years of seasoning
Glad he waited because we would be back buried in 10 years of mediocrity since him

The current clown world is what created Trump the candidate/president

i think if everyone was honest they would agree bush most likely gets the win based on how large of an unknown trump was as far as what to expect from him

Very poorly.
We were coming off one of the best runs of peace and prosperity in history (1983-99, with a hiccup in 1992 that was still better than the 21st century). We didn't have SJW idiocy on anywhere near the current level. Health care was much more affordable. We didn't have back to back disastrous presidencies, one from each party.
So voters weren't receptive to outsider candidates and weren't angry enough to be attracted to a WWF style campaign.

He did not have his team set up at that point. By his own admission, he was not ready......

Doubtful. Part of the reason won was because of social media and his ability to bypass new outlets. There was no twitter, IG or facebook at that time. He would have been trapped by the media's ability to create the narrative. Today he sets the narrative

The establishment GOP hadn’t destroyed their credibility with their voter base yet. They’d made a little bit of a start, but they still had some of the afterglow of the party of Reagan.

correct....the only way at that time to get exposure was on TV and newspapers....both of which required a lot of money....and he would never be able to get big name donors to allow that to happen in 2000. Hell, he did not even have his Boeing 757 plane yet.....
that plane was a huge asset last year in allowing him to travel...

2016 news media was basically 2000 news media on steroids, there was no Twitter back then. How was he going to get his message out without his words getting twisted, MySpace?

If he had ran in 2008, we would have never had Obama. Trump has the guts to say and repeat the things that should have kept from getting even close to winning.

Poorly, Ivanka was not of age yet!

quote:Doubt it. First off W was well positioned as a politician. His bonafides included handing Ann Richards her arse, followed a a successful tenure as governor. His fund raising outstripped anything prior to it. He had a great campaign organization. Meanwhile, the Trump Organization at that time was still financially recovering from early to mid-1990's setbacks. DJT was newly divorced. His kids were too young to aid with a run. His father had just died. The time was not right.
Does he beat George Bush?
2012 OTOH, he could have pulled off.

He would have LOST to Obama....Hell, I voted for ZerObama in 2008.
The 2008 financial crisis, ended any chance of a GOP wining....
2012 was ripe but ROmney fricked it up....I have never seen such an incompetent campaign

Bush still would have won. The conditions were not right for DJT in 2000. He is very much a product of his times and environment.

2016 was the perfect time for someone like trump to win.
Normally his type would have been dismissed, but the hatred and disgust, plus social media, set the stage for this debacle.
Plus, hillary took too much for granted and helped hand it over.
Neither candidate was desirable.
Damn,I wish someone worth a crap would step up.

Don’t forget the Russians Clark. They had a hand in this too.

Yep,and will be allowed to continue.
I don't get the love for them.
I guess I just grew up in a different time when we knew our enemies.

Obama should have been a one and done. Plenty of people could see the way he was trying to reshape the country and wanted none of it.
The only reason he wasn't was Romney. The guy was terrible.
