That guy is a dumbass. He plays stupid to avoid criticism or he’s just stupid. Either way, that’s not what a police chief of the capitol city of the state should be doing. That’s insubordination and he should be publicly reprimanded by the Council.

Of course they keep track of it. I'm fairly certain they are required to by federal law. Paul was trying to suppress the information from the City Council because it makes he and the mayor look bad.

it’s obvious that they know the statistics but don’t “actually” keep track of it. It’s like hey we had 300 fatal shootings in 2016 and we had a total of 500 shootings in 2016. I’m sorry, we don’t keep track of the non-fatal shooting in Baton Rouge. Basically they don’t want to do math.
If I was Matt Watson, I’d ask for all the statistics for every reported crime in the city for the last three years. Then, I’d come to the council meeting and disclose this to the city council and explain how the city police couldn’t do simple math.

Exactly. Your telling me that when an officer pulls up to a non-fatal shooting he doesn't fill out a police report and take a statement from the victim? There is no way.

Which to me is just as egregious for our police force not to do. As medical technology gets better, deaths due to trauma decrease. Tracking overall shootings is a better indication of violent crime statistic than death by shootings.
On a side note, isn’t this how NO claimed violent crime was down during the Morial regime? Improve hospitals thanks to returning war time medics and stop reporting shots but report murders?

If that were the case it would just be a matter of laziness/ineptitude, but the current stats person for BRPD told Watson she could generate the info easily with the Chief's approval. She can't hide from the homicide stats, but Broome really doesn't want to show that violent crime has increased since her hand-picked police chief was installed, especially with an election next year.

So they activity track the number of total shootings, and they actively track the number of fatal shootings, but they where unable to quickly provide the number of non-fatal shootings? If the data was available a 4th grader could do the math and figure out the answer. This is just sad.
