Intellectual Consistency vs. Results

Back when Barry was in the White House, I was adamantly against his use of Executive Order to accomplish his agenda. I thought it was overreach, and an unconstitutional usurpation of power from the checks and balances given to the Congress.
Fast forward to now and I feel differently about it with President Trump in office. With the progressive hijacking of the House and the future of the country in the balance, I now catch myself believing that it is a necessary tool to advance his agenda and save the country.
It is still overreach and unconstitutional, but I dont care. I have no doubt that I would flip back the other way with a Dim administratin. But I do struggle with it. I guess the question I would ask is this: Do you believe getting to the end result you want politically more important than being intellectually consistent?

Humans are NEVER intellectually consistent across the board in all areas of our lives. So much of our biological programming is tribal and illogical because it helped us survive for hundreds of thousands of years.
At the end if the day, “us” vs “them” is still what drives most contentious human interactions. This is most evident when it comes to politics and religion.

No.
That’s exactly how authoritarians operate.

you always have to think about what would happen if whoever you consider as your opponent gains power.
had a discussion just yesterday with a co-worker who would be OK with eliminating term limits so Trump could stay in office longer.
he didn’t want to hear or even think of the possibility of someone like Obama having more than 2 terms.

Authoritarianism is just what happens when human nature meets opportunity and sufficient resources. A lack of opportunity/resources is the only thing that separates most Joe truck drivers from Mao.

EOs are constitutional overreaching.
However, I get to grin as Trump’s obliterate Obama’s, while shaking my head no.
The growth of power by the federal government has created constitutional overreach by all three branches of government, executive, legislative, and judicial.

Blind intellectual consistency is what the Never Trumpers hide behind to defend their lack of results.
Without compromise, in order to get results, those blind intellectuals will be subsumed by the organic intellectual status quo. In other words, they will pretend to stand on principle until they adjust their principles in order to be considered principled in the current political climate.

Just like everyone else, as long as the end result is what I like.
If you want to be intellectually consistent, go be hermit. Otherwise, you'll have to compromise if you live around other people.

I agree - I have had the same thoughts myself.
My sooting sense is that the Constitution is NOT a 'suicide note'
It executive actions that come to mind with both administrations involve the immigration question.
To me - "immigration" is now an existential issue - we either curb it to some normal sense of what it means to 'immigrate' to America.
We have a constitutional process for that - come in and visit with a Visa and then go back home - OR come in with a work visa and then go home - OR come in and apply for citizenship if you desire to LIVE here forever.
There is NOTHING WRONG with that setup - we can easily tinker around with numbers in each category to meet evolving situations - legally.
What the OTHER side of the 'immigration' issue is nothing more than a scheme to REPLACE the existing American population with ALIENs - and especially aliens who have ZERO interest in assimilating into the AMERICAN culture - but are EXPRESSLY here to OVERTHOW the American culture.
We have one political party who actually wants to DESTROY what it means to be an AMERICAN - all because they cannot convince enough REAL Americans to vote for them outside their enclaves of poverty and misery.
They have primarily been able to get to this point by generations fo appointed JUDGES who are in league with their intentions. And conservatives have allowed them to do this because WE are sympathetic - understanding - trusting - benevolent people. WE fight for the rights and success potential of ALL citizens - regardless of who we KNOW they are predisposed to vote for.
DISCLAIMER - WE ARE NOT PERFECT - WE ARE ALL HUMAN - NONE OF US ARE SAINTS - WE MAKE MISTAKES - WE EVEN HAVE SOME REALLY REALLY WICKEND PEOPLE WHO JOIN OUR COALITION BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN PERSONAL ILL WILL - DISCLAIMER DISCLAIMER DISCLAIMER.
That said - the future of America is in the hands of Conservatives - To allow the current level of 'progressives' to gain control AT THIS MOMENT in time is to DESTROY AMERICA and institute another failed experiment in socialism.
We elected Trump (thank GOD) to defend and protect the constitution - I support his use of any legal power he possess to do just that.
Congress is now paralyzed with a truly evil ideology that is ACTIVELY trying to destroy America.
And we have a judicial system which has had its thumb on the scales for generations in favor of the anti-constitution crowd.

I think the answer is as always...it depends. If an order is made for the protection of individual natural rights of our citizens (true rights of freedom...not the “right” to healthcare) then it is within the bounds of good intent.
On the other hand if it’s to create a law that infringes upon some for the benefit of others then this is when it can quickly become authoritarian/tyrannous.

You guys still think tax cuts will pay for themselves. Fix that, then maybe you can try to make this thread and it won't be hilarious.

FY 2017 - $3.32 trillion.
FY 2018 - $3.33 trillion.
FY 2019 - $3.44 trillion, estimated.
