It wasnt. Slavery would have gradually ended over next 20 years or so

But the yankees decided we needed to fight a war and have millions die over it.

I never got it. A slave cost around 4-5 years of a workers entire salary. Plus you had to feed and house.

Seems hiring migrants like the north and west did, would be cheaper.

It took the north 4 years to win the war with all their advantages. What a bunch of pussies.

Well, it was an economic system that had been seen a bit throughout history. Outright slavery, serfdom, peasantry and other similar systems.

This. Atlantic slave trade was already banned. No new slaves could’ve been brought in. Would’ve died eventually. I wish it would’ve never existed. People then should’ve did their own work or hired people.

The US was the only country on earth that fought a war to end slavery. Which tells you the Civil War was fought over much more than just slavery.

The cotton gin helped efficiency and ergo enough profit to keep slave owners in business at a reduced population though.

To be fair it wasnt the yankees that bombarded Ft. Sumter.

Had the Union done the casus belli, you would have a better point.

When you allow a minority (big industry, major farmers) to dictate policy, shite happens. Alabama basically gave a few rich farmers more power in state legislation than the common person. We are still struggling with this today. People refuse to create a new state constitution because of this.
