The reasoning behind her decision was not revealed until an interview with the 700 Club in May of 2018. Two months later, Hinkle, 26, made her eighth and last appearance with the U.S. women's national team. 'I just felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasn't my job to wear this jersey,' she told 'The 700 Club' in a May 2018 interview. 'I gave myself three days to just seek and pray and determine what [God] was asking me to do in this situation.' At the time, Hinkle said she knew her decision could have consequences. 'I'm essentially giving up the one dream little girls dream about their entire life, and I'm saying no to. It was very disappointing,' she said in the 700 Club interview. Hinkle has not spoken about the issue publicly since the U.S. won the World Cup on Sunday. A spokesperson for Hinkle's club team, the North Carolina Courage, did not immediately respond to the Daily Mail's interview request. U.S. coach Jill Ellis told reporters in 2018 that Hinkle was cut 'solely based on soccer.'

How can someone be kicked off a team they were never on?

Although she never made a World Cup or Olympic roster, the 26-year-old fullback has played professionally in the National Women's Soccer League since 2015.

Just doing some further investigation

Hinkle revealed that she withdrew from the team for the June 2017 friendlies because she did not want to wear the US Soccer jerseys honoring LGBT Pride Month, saying "I just felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasn't my job to wear this jersey

In July 2018, Hinkle received a call-up to the USWNT training camp for the 2018 Tournament of Nations, which marked her first call-up to the national team since withdrawing from camp in 2017.She was not named to the Tournament of Nations final roster.
She was blackballed

It’s amazing to me that the same people who say we have to accept and respect Rapinoe’s opinion and decision to protest are the same ones who say this woman doesn’t have the right to voice her opinion or to protest.
It’s a crazy double standard.

It was my understanding that she voluntarily left the team after deciding not to wear the jersey.

She wasn't talented enough to compete at the highest stage. They just won the world cup again so I think they had the right roster.

Right, but those specific events are the only ones that really matter.
She wasn't good enough for those and now has an easy way to claim persecution.

It is. Not making a world cup roster =/= kicked off the team

She's a good player, and was probably good enough to make the roster. She would not have been a starter though, and probably wouldn't have even made it off the bench as well as Crystal Dunn played all tournament.
That said, she removed herself off the team. She was called back for a tryout and didn't make the cut, then went and had a solid season in the professional league. Conservatives are making a bigger story of this than it is, though I do agree she's probably good enough to make the team. But who knows how she did in tryouts.
