Sounds like a clear cut case of discrimination based on her Christian values.

So she wasn't kicked off the team, it sounds like.

If she actually was kicked off the team for not wearing a jersey, that's quite the issue. Based on the fact that she quit the team on her own makes me question the validity of the OP.

Also, the most important we're missing here is that she refused to play in a game. We can argue whether there's a place for a gay pride jersey in a game, solid argument. But once a player essentially refuses to play in a game, she's not going to make the final cut of a team unless she's one of the best players in the world.

It’s not clear cut that she would have made the team if this never happened.

And again, refusing to play for a team will always hurt your chances at being on that team later.

“You don't receive a call later to try out if you're being blackballed. “

Very naive. Have you ever worked in a corporate setting? This happens frequently and is called covering your tracks against a potential discrimination lawsuit. In this case a player leaves the team because of a moral/ethical dilemma that conflicts with her religion and it has caused friction between her and her teammates. Player feels ostracized and leaves the team rather than stay and be shunned. USWST realizes they have a potential lawsuit on hand and decides to invite her back so they can part ways with her under their terms. It is reasonable to suggest that she was invited back with the intent of cutting her from the team under the guise of “not quite good enough” in order to process her out in manner that could not pass the muster of a discrimination claim.

I am not saying it happened that way but moreso just pointing to the naivety of your post. Some version of that happens in organization across America every day.
