You have at least a million boomers who don't know how to work their remote so the television stays on their local Fox station.

You know boomers grew up with tv right? That's like saying a millennial can't work a computer.

Boomers certainly didn’t grow up with the current TV set-up.

As for the historic ratings of the All Star game, it certainly shows a downward trajectory.

all he said was that "it helps"

Now that it's July you must be reverting back into your Saints lovin douche persona to get ready for the football season

Is this a surprise? The MLB all star game is the only all star game that isn’t a total farce, and historically fans and players were really into it. Not as much anymore, but it’s still pretty close to real baseball and the history of the game makes it a draw.

Being on network vs cable definitely makes a difference as well

Is TNT not a network?

I thought it was on all basic TV packages

It is not an OTA broadcast network channel like CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox. Those channels do bigger ratings than basic cable channels like TNT, usually much bigger

The NBA ASG is worse than the pro bowl. It’s a complete joke. They need to do something to get these guys to actually compete.

It's easier to play a competitive exhibition in baseball vs the other sports without worrying about injuries.

This is exactly right.

There is very little body-to-body contact in baseball and defense isn't played 'in your face,' so an exhibition can look just like the real thing.

A better comparison is probably HR derby vs. dunk and 3 pt competition.

I believe like 20% of tv users had Fox blacked out last night so that is a super bull shite excuse.

Why would Fox be blacked out for anyone?

and you can ignore any aspect of teamwork in the MLB while strictly just focusing on the Pitcher/Batter matchup and still have a very compelling and competitive game. You do this with basketball and football and it's horrendously boring.

The MLB All Star game has two big advantages:

1. It's played at a time where the is virtually no competition from other sports

2. It's played like a real game vs. the half-assed exhibition game that is the NBA All Star Game. However, I fully understand NBA players half assing it. To play a competitive game they would have to exert significant energy. In the baseball game you can have what feels like a competitive game without the players overexerting themselves. It's just the nature of the two sports.

I was told the MLB was dying and that the NBA was the most popular league according to this message board.

This has nothing to do with the popularity of the league. It's the popularity of the all star game.

Next you'll tell us that the MLB is more popular than the NFL because the MLB all star game gets better ratings than the pro bowl.

AT&T and Nexstar are in fees dispute. Many people, including myself, had to watch the ASG elsewhere last night and couldn’t watch the Women’s World Cup Final.

I believe they have been blacked out for close to a week now for many people. Lawmakers are getting involved in Washington.
