Nintendo announces Nintendo Switch Lite

Official Nintendo Switch Lite Website
First Look
Release Date: 9/20/19
Price is $200
However, it can't connect to a television, doesn't have controller rumble, and no detachable joy cons. To me this makes no sense. Why would anyone want this outside of price? It's not much smaller than the traditional switch and can't connect to a TV? Come on Nintendo.

People will buy it for their children because it's cheaper and has no detachable parts for the kids to lose/break.

hell, I probably would have bought this version if it was available from the beginning. I've only hooked up my Switch to the TV to play Mario Party. Everything else has been done in handheld. It'd be kind of nice to not worry about those damn joycons.

I don't really care about the detachable joycons (can we have an official right joycon with a d-pad please Nintendo?), but I don't really see how allowing it to connect to the dock would up the price. I'd buy this if I could dock it.

Are they phasing out DS?

This is all about Japan, 100%, that's all this is, is for their home base.
ETA: I'll be buying this version for my wife to play Pokemon on since I currently only own 1 system.

Can you connect a pro controller to it?

I rarely ever use the Switch docked, so if I didn't already have one I'd probably get this one. It's a really nice price point.
I assume they'll also come up with a "pro" model at some point too.

The teal one looks so good. To bad there isn't a way to hook them up to a TV. I'll stick with my original.

No TV out makes this a no go for me which is a shame because I would buy it for the smaller form factor and D-pad.
Sticking with the original and holding out for a pro.

Agreed. I totally get the market for this, a lot of people do just want a handheld and a cheaper model for them makes sense.
But I'm the opposite customer, I want a home console experience, so I'm hoping they announce a pro model soon that caters to that side.

Same here. I do not, and will not buy handheld hardware.

I'd be ticked if I bought the regular switch for $100 more, only to find out I could have waited a few months for this cheaper version and use it docked to the TV.

I wonder if there's any way for current switch owners to get this and play digital games already owned on both at the same time. For example my son and I playing super smash but him as a user and me as a user.

I don't like it either, but Nintendo has been doing this for years with the GameBoy, GameBoy Pocket, GameBoy Pocket Color, GBA, GBA SP, DS, DS Light, DS XML, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, 2DS, New 2DS XL.
Sony and Microsoft have done it with the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, the PS3 slim, the PS2 slim, the PS3 super slim, the PS4 pro, and the PS4 slim. Sony also had three different revisions of the PSP and one revision of the Vita.

I’m assuming you’re old, because a growing number of homes in America don’t have TVs. They don’t need them.

I could only wish. Or at least allow for DS compatibility with the Switch.

Same. I don’t think we’ve ever played ours not connected to the tv.

Oh cool! it’s a portable version of the portable Nintendo Switch!

I’m 28 and don’t know a single person without a tv in their home. I feel like this has to be a joke lol
