I prefer not to. My wife and Her family think they should be locked at all times. I think they some scary bitches.
sounds like you think its still the 1950s and are very naive and have no clue home many home invasions are nothing more then a guy walks up to your door and walks in. once inside you are their bitch since its too late to go get your gun or a weapon while they rape your wife or daughter in front of you while laughing at you.
in this day and age do you really think criminal punks give a frick about going in a nice quiet neighborhood and walking into random houses to rob rape and kill just for sport?
i could see not locking a door if you are a man and sitting in the room behind it, the assumption is you can fight off anyone who does just walk into your home, but you are still gambling they wont have a gun when they do it

I used to not care, but having kids changed that concept for me. Our house and neighborhood is lined with security cameras as well. No one can drive or walk into our neighborhood without getting filmed a dozen times.
With Kids: Having their friends just open the front door and walk in asking if LittleCats are home was unnerving. With that being said, our house is rarely locked in the daytime.
Our oldest child is the door locker at night. We get sealed up like Fort Knox.
We have an alarm system with all the tricks: electric locks, internet this and that, guest codes, and a dog.

During the day, when home... No. At night.. Yes. Either way, if that makes your wife and family feel safe.. Why does it matter?

It matters because they lock that shite even if you go outside for like 5 minutes. I find that weird and annoying.
Also, if someone wants to “invade” my home, they won’t do it in the middle of the day at my front door.
So y’all think robberies are thwarted by locked doors? I think robbers assume the door will be locked and prepare accordingly.

Usually, my son is 3 and I don’t trust him.

Most home invasions occur between 6AM - 6PM (when people are not home or when people less expect it).
But if it is one of those situations where they lock it and something is going on and you are going in and out of the house.. And everytime you go to open the door, you don't even think about it.. And then you go to go in and it is locked then yeah I can that being annoying. It might just be force of habit.
But I can see how there is a line between safety and annoyance.

I'd be pissed if my wife locked me out everytime I went outside

During the day no. At night yes.

Locked at all times unless I’m in the yard on that side of the house

Read the statistics. As the poster above me said, majority are actually during the day. Probably because enough people leave their doors unlocked and make it easy

Lmao, yes. If you were a robber, would you choose house A that's locked up, or House B where you can waltz in the front door? They have options. And why not at least make it a bit harder for them? The extra minute or two you buy yourself could be the difference between life and death.
If a robber has to break in they risk:
-cutting an artery on the glass
-the noise alerting you and the neighbors when they force themselves in
-setting off a security system
Just last year there was some teenagers breaking into cars in my neighborhood and guess what? Literally every car the broke into was unlocked. Guess how many locked cars they got into? None. Could they have broken a window of a locked car, sure, but it was much easier for them walking around checking for the dumbasses that left their shite unlocked.
But if you want to keep gambling so you don't have the occasional minor inconvenience of getting locked out (hide a spare key somewhere, it's not hard), then by all means, go for it
Eta: I don't mean locking it when you go to check the mail or something quick. Figured that goes without saying.

Locked and garage doors down unless we are coming and going in and out of the house. It's a habit.
Posted on 7/7/19 at 2:44 pm to baybeefeetz
I don’t lock them at all honestly even when I go out of town.
Posted on 7/7/19 at 3:42 pm to baybeefeetz
No, but I have two cur dogs that will bite your arse if you step foot in my yard and they don't know you.

I know a guy who does the complete opposite of the norm. When he leaves home for work or travel, he leaves his front door open. If his door is shut, he’s home. He’s never had any issues in 40 years

You have to be really dumb, really desperate, or really really brave to walk into someone’s unlocked door, uninvited. Around here, doing so is absolutely taking your life in your hands.
If a criminal walking in your front door immediately puts you at their mercy, and your wife and daughter subject to rape and you the torture of witnessing it, either you do not take responsibility for you and your family’s safety and security, or you haven’t taken the time to think, plan, and be prepared.
I have means of protection, regardless of where I go in my house. If you come in my front or back door, you’ll be dead before you make it down the hallway. If you break in one of my bedroom windows, you’ll never make it out of the hallway.

Not during the day but I also live in a very safe suburban area. Essentially very little crime. I obviously lock the doors at night.
I grew up in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans and now reside in Mid-City. The crime in Mid-City is relatively low now compared to what it was pre-Katrina.
However, a few of my neighbors do have cameras set up around their houses and report a group of kids coming through the neighborhood from time to time late at night with flashlights looking into cars and trying doorknobs.
I guess I should knock wood, but I've been in my house since 92 and haven't had anything stolen from me in all those years.

What is the inconvenience of locking your doors?
Posted on 7/7/19 at 4:42 pm to baybeefeetz
Only at night. Even if me, my wife and kids ride our bikes to the park during the day the garage door stays wide open and house unlocked.
