What's your point? These people exist. Watch the news. 7billiom people in the world, there's plenty of dumb, desperate folks.

Lol easy there bro, I'm not saying I don't have means of protecting myself and my family. Simply saying I'm not delusional enough to think there's no circumstances where I would be caught off guard. Also, it's ironic you're arguing for leaving doors unlocked and boasting about personal responsibility of protecting your family in the same breath.

See my previous posts... Are you implying you're never vulnerable at any point? Do you sleep? Take shits? Have sex with your wife? If you left your door unlocked at night to where the burglar can sneak in without making any noise while you sleep, you really think you're winning that fight 100% of the time?

I'll go ahead and lock my doors, just in case I don't have my gun next to my shampoo while I'm showering

The point is, for every one of those people, there are 100 or 1000 who do not take responsibility for their own safety and security, and if only half of them did so, there would be so damn many dead home invaders, the ones who still exist may find an easier target to prey upon.

Did I say that? No, I didn’t. Maybe you should read my post again, with comprehension this time. I lock my doors at night, it’s part of protecting my family. But if everyone took responsibility for themselves and their family, criminals would come to understand that locked or not, whatever they find behind that door is most likely going to cost them a gunshot injury at best, and their life at worst, they may find a better use of their time. A job perhaps?

See my previous posts. I put time, energy, and thought into minimizing the vulnerability of myself and my family. It is a priority for me, and I work on it regularly.

quote:

Do you sleep?

Obviously a rhetorical question. I also have a tactical shotgun hanging beside my bed. I have motion lights and cameras linked to my phone, sitting in the headboard of my bed, about a foot from my head.

quote:

Take shits? Have sex with your wife?

More rhetorical questions. I already mentioned the shotgun in my bedroom, it’s not alone. And yes, I have provisions in my bathroom as well.

You’re assuming the burglar gets by my 105 pound dog, who sleeps in the living room, I guess. I’m sure it would have to be a consideration, if a burglar were able to enter my house without setting off any of the 4 motion lights, activating any of the cameras associated with those motion lights, sneak past my incredibly protective dog (8 feet away at most) and into my bedroom. John Wick would probably take me. Thank God he is an imaginary character in a movie.

I’d love to see crime stats on that. Home invasions with homeowners in the house during the day

The day I feel uncomfortable leaving my doors unlocked is the day I move somewhere else. We only lock doors if we are out of town.

OP was implying that there was no point in locking your door because a criminal can break in anyway. Therefore, I replied saying that's nonsense, there's no reason not to lock your door for increased security. Then you replied to me with

quote:

You have to be really dumb, really desperate, or really really brave to walk into someone’s unlocked door, uninvited. Around here, doing so is absolutely taking your life in your hands.

Here's my attempt at comprehension:

1. You replied directly to my "pro-locking doors" post, which implies you wanted to contradict or oppose my view
2. The first sentence makes it seem like you think there couldn't be anybody dumb enough to try walking in, which makes it sound like you think locking doors isn't necessary.
3. Considering you didn't say definitively where you stand, that's all the context I had to work with. So I concluded you were arguing with me about locking doors.

Then you come at me with this nugget:

quote:

If a criminal walking in your front door immediately puts you at their mercy, and your wife and daughter subject to rape and you the torture of witnessing it, either you do not take responsibility for you and your family’s safety and security, or you haven’t taken the time to think, plan, and be prepared

Now you should work on your comprehension, because at no point did I say if a criminal walked in the front door that my family would therefore be raped and killed.

My only point, throughout this entire thread, is that it's dumb not to lock your doors because we live in an unpredictable world. Additionally, we all have moments of vulnerability and if you make access to your home easy and you aren't already aiming your gun at the front door, then you're rolling the dice.

To sum, it sounds like we are both on the side of locking doors. Probably should've chosen to respond to someone on the other side of the fence with your first post.

Yes and my place is gated with 24/7 armed patrols.

Thugs don't rob poor neighborhoods.

if I felt the need to lock my doors during the day while I'm at home, I'd move somewhere else

We lock our doors at night, yes.

Partly for keeping people out, but also for keeping our young children...in

We live in a heavily populated, urban setting that is a "gentrified" area with remnants of the past all over.

Yes, we keep our front door locked and backyard locked at all times. I'll keep the backdoor unlocked during the day, but it'd be very hard to get into my patio/yard.

Same.

I didn't even consider the question could even mean during the day. Hell I've gone to work with my doors unlocked all day before.

my wife is terrible about leaving the door unlocked

my neighbors don't even have a key to their home, doors never locked, been that way for 30 years

I'm pretty trustworthy, but I don't know if I can ever be that trustworthy

Often times our doors are unlocked if we're home during the day. The kids come and go too much on the weekends to leave the doors locked all day. If it's rainy out, or the kids are away, they're usually kept locked.
