Doors are always locked. I lock the door even when I let the dog out.

Not during the day but I also live in a very safe suburban area. Essentially very little crime. I obviously lock the doors at night.

With that said if I lived in a more urban area I would keep the doors locked at all times. Plus it's just me, no wife or kids, if I had a family I would probably keep them locked more often. You just never know nowadays.

My dad has a place near Springhill Park. I'd move there tomorrow if my job prospects were a little better in that area.

I have 7 doors on my house that open outside, there’s a good chance at least one is unlocked whether I’m home or not

Damn. We live in the middle of BR and my French doors are almost always unlocked during the day. Hell they are usually open when it's not the middle of the summer. We have neighborhood kids in and out most of the time.

I can guarantee this happened when I had little ones at home.

The Springhill area is tucked under the Bridger Mountains. Great part of the Bozeman area.

Winter was 9 months long this year. Had 3 feet of snow in our yard from December until April. Snowed on June 18.

I’m done with winter. Although it did hit 85 yesterday. Warmest day of the year.

It's a beautiful place. I don't so much mind the cold. I might have to get a divorce before I move there though

This debate is sounding a lot like the logic people use when opting not to have flood insurance in Louisiana.

"Why would I have flood insurance? I've never flooded before..."

And lots of people assuming they'll never be on the shitter when trouble comes calling. Everyone gonna be like Rambo whenever the time requires.

And this isn't limited to burglaries... Even if you live in a safe suburban neighborhood, there are kids that'll wander into your house either because they're dumb, they want to steal your kids bike, or they are doing a prank, whatever. I was at my folks house one day chatting, then the front door randomly opens and two local kids saw us, got spooked and ran off. Maybe they went to the wrong house, or maybe they were looking to vandalize something. Who knows. Easily solved by locking the doors though

Always locked. It only takes one drug-crazed zombie to tear up your life.

I keep mine locked and the garage door down. I don't want characters knowing when I am gone.
Some folks still leave their purses and valuable in plain view in their vehicle. Some leave their keys in the ignition when shopping.

If you are worried about constant harm, I’d recommend you move.
I don’t even lock my door at night.

I don't worry about constant harm because the lock was invented. I can get to a fire arm before a thief breaks in.

No. I live in Mandeville. Not necessary

Mandeville poster here a few years ago told story of how he was sleeping on the couch one night, and that was unusual for him, when middle of the night his unlocked back door opens and an intruder gets about halfway in when he startled awake and yells WTF! and the intruder runs.

Had he not been on the couch that night, intruders would have been in the home.

Like others said, it never happens until it happens.

Our doors are locked at all times.

I believe in open borders, so not only do I unlock everything. I open all the doors and windows as well.

same here... granted i'm from a small town where most people knew everyone, for the most part, and she's from the Westbank, so i'm sure it's just a case of growing up in differing scenarios, but it just seems a little over the top, IMO...

I don't live in constant fear, but I also don't live in constant delusion that nothing bad will ever happen. Bad shite happens in nice neighborhoods all the time. In fact, if I was a burglar I'd definitely target those neighborhoods because of those delusions.
