What if... ONE cop started with rubber bullets...
What if... they adjusted their strategy for rubber bullets...

But you can join the OT tough guy club if that's worth anything to you.

Dude...you really need to quit while you are this far behind. You clearly don't understand why your ideas are completely impractical and it's making you look like a douche.

It was far from good. That should have ended waaaaay sooner.

The first couple minutes were good IMO. If the cops thought they had room to back away before shooting to give the situation a chance to deescalate, that's exactly what I'd want from police. While I know it's not always an option, I think that is far better for the theoretical role of law enforcement, public trust, etc. than "I stand where I am and if you appear to flinch you die" that we've seen in some of the most disputed shoots.

The end was a blunder, but thankfully it wasn't worse.

Your stance in this case of using less than lethal methods is insane. Namely because they did attempt to use less than lethal methods to detain the suspect.

Responding with nothing but calling someone a douche kinda makes you look like a piece of shite.

Common sense is not an option? Why would you endorse anyone running at a police officer with a knife?

2 cops, 1 perp. 1 taser to the forehead, 1 taser to the dick. Perp gets subdued and lives to stab another day. Everyone wins.

You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. Taser prongs are rated for 21 feet...that’s 7 yards with a 25 degree split. You miss, and you will miss (aiming for a moving head), you don’t have time to transition to a gun so your cut numerous times and/ or dead.

You want less lethal in this situation, if the officers had time to actually process everything going on other than worrying about being charged and killed, they could’ve utilized the fire trucks and had the fire fighters light the suspect up with the water hoses. But that’s easy to say until your in that situation. You shoot, the media wants to sell their agenda and your blasted on the media for killing little billy on his way from church. You do everything you can to keep from using lethal force, and you’ve risked your own life by second guessing what should be ingrained in you from training.

No clue why the first officer holstered his weapon,

Someone on the video comments said the guy dropped the knife before he got back up so the officer was trying to use less than lethal force.

The guy has a weapon, you’re back peddling and he can run forward. Did you see how fast he closed the distance before going down? He had a weapon, was told to drop it that’s all the deescalation I expect.

Since obviously the cops can't do a Zach Morris timeout to switch to rubber bullets or devise a strategy for that specific scenario, what is your proposal?

That all cops carry an extra weapon with rubber bullets? Knowing they already carry at least 2, a pistol and a taser.

It seems unfair and easy to criticize how every situation is handled.

Honestly, I feel like they handled it the best they could, given the circumstances.

I don't know the answer. I wish I did. I cannot believe he got up from being shot so many times to attack yet again.. and had that much strength..

Crazy good shooting of the 2nd police officer.

Not sure why the other officers holstered his weapon

I'm assuming 3 distinct reasons.

A) retention holster. Once in there it needs to be removed a certain way.

B) it creates 2 points of contact control for the officer, while still allowing him one free arm to defend himself. Plus, it's far more effective than trying to hold it with two hands against an assailant. His hands are sweaty and the other dude is covered in blood. Maintaining his grip would have been extremely difficult, and losing it creates danger for everyone involved. Even if his hands still hold it, it slipping means the trigger could accidentally be pulled. The holster create a pocket from which the gun can only be moved from in one direction, so the cop can concentrate all of his force to stop that motion. Whereas holding it in a scuffle the assailant would thrashing every direction trying to take the gun.

C) this kind of goes with the end of B. holstering it while wrestling a suspect, means the suspect can't pull the trigger during the melee if the gun is still in the officers hands.

Also, I'm pretty sure the officer didn't during the second charge because he was unsure of what was behind the suspect while trying to evade him.

All in all, officer was smart and had good training. The second officers reaction and excellent shooting at the end also speaks to them having excellent training.

I think they handled it well initially. After retreating, to get the guy away from potential hostages or bystanders who may be hit by rounds, they had him in a good position. I think retreating to the point of being in a main street/thoroughfare was a mistake. It brought more potential hostages back into the equation. Imagine a family driving by at that time and the perp gets into their vehicle.

Anyway once the perp charged it should have been a done deal. The fact that they let him get back up was a huge mistake IMHO. Once he regained his feet they both should have emptied clips into him until down for good.

If he had managed to produce another knife from a pocket that first cop would have been a dead man

F- the perp. I’m going home to my family...you can go to meth heaven and hang out with other other deceased druggies.

Just my 2 cents

My guess is he holstered for one of 2 reasons:

A) he holstered so that he could handcuff the downed suspect (and yes you handcuff a guy after you shoot him) while partner covered.

B) he was going to transition to his taser.

Most probable is reason A.

Good riddance. Frick this POS (and I'm glad he was white). I'll add this one to my playlist for my Civics classes.

Holstered his weapon to completely remove the firearm from the altercation. That's what they're trained to do in certain situations. If he kept his gun out, it left the possibility for the perp to get a hold of it and kill someone. He made a smart move by doing that.

The bad guy dropped the knife after he was shot the first couple of times. Officer #1 figured he could take him without the gun. You can tell he was a little shaken and it didn't go as smoothly as planned but he made the right call. Just didn't execute the arse whoopin.
