at least is up for serious discussion now... but...
Is over fishing the cause or is it our degrading estuary habitat that may finally be catching up with us?
apparently the spawning bio mass is way way off.
my guess is 14 " and 15 fish

I'm all for it. Nobody needs more that 10-15 trout per day. fricking ridiculous.

+1
Ive made this argument on here before but we have the highest limit of trout per person and the smallest size requirement (by 2 inches) of all other speckled trout producing states in the country (8 states). 25 trout is not practical anymore and just appeals to the novelty and awe of keeping 25 fish. We need to start looking out for our fishery.
ETA: And the "well if its so important, then why hasnt LDWF done or said anything ab it?" argument is just ignorant

That is plenty of meat.

Will happen at the fall commission meeting with zero objections.
Cal going to 10/12or14”, prefer 14” and fine with dropping limit. Our recruitment the past couple years has been underwhelming, tons of short fish that don’t seem to grow.

It's coming, I'm sure
I will become a full time golfer when it does
Too much investment of time and money to be done in an hour.
Big reason I don't fish redfish
The guides will love it. Less work.

caught about 40 reds the other day... keeping only 5 was no issue....

You must be a bad SOB if you're going to consistently put a 15/person limit of 14" trout in the boat in an hour.

quote:yeah - I just hope this improves the spawning mass and the drop is not habitat related, as is my hunch.

Sounds like you don't actually like fishing and only do it to harvest meat.

Here we go. This should be fun.

I think they are better off letting you keep he first 15 you catch regardless of size. Lots of mortality when you throw back 10-11 inch specks.
Posted on 6/26/19 at 1:16 pm to jimbeam
I'm all for a change.
Would love for them to make guided trips keep only limits of the chartering clients and guide limits can't be kept at the same time.

quote:have agreed with this..... for years... saw a boat near us a couple weeks ago catch about 20-30 fish - then 15 minutes later when bite slowed started picking up ones from deck of boat and tossing them back...

Thats some bull shite. Only thow them on the deck if they are 100% over 12" and will be going in the ice chest. Im ok in reducing the limits or increasing size if it helps the population of trout but id rather see a reduction in dumbass fishermen
