How long a term can I get?
Is there a specific category or does it just fall under home improvement?
Thinking it will cost between 35-50k...

Yep. You can get a Things I’ll Regret in Three Years loan starting at 7.9% plus unlimited maintenance for the life of the regret.

So you’re going to finance something that will limit your resale value, increase your insurance premiums, and is a money pit. Great plan.

Oh boy there is all kinds of bad in this decision

You could use a home equity loan and they're very flexible.
Good way to beat the heat!

Pools are like bars. It is better to have a friend with one than own one yourself

Not going to discuss if this is a good idea.
Friend of ours is spending 50K. Borrowed 40K from a credit union, 10 years, 7.5% interest. It was NOT a home equity loan.

Moved into a house with a pool 5 years ago, and my kids (now aged 9,5, 3) LOVE it. It is worth the maintenance. In 5 years we have gotten amazing use out if the pool. I also love my kids more than anything. That said, I don’t love them $50,000 worth to ever consider buying them a pool, if the house didn’t already have one. frick that shite.

In talking to my friends who have put in pools recently, I've heard 60,000 is a base pool without all the bells and whistles.

Off topic but what kind of discount can I get on a $50k pool if I pay in cash?

Instead of a pool I joined the country club down the road from my house. Would take 100 yrs of paying the summer pool membership to equal price of an in ground pool.

Don't. Seriously. Don't do it.
If you want it and you have the money, fine. But do not finance a pool.

What is your current mortgage rate at?
If it is at todays current rate or higher look into doing a Renovation loan. You can get a conventional refinance at today's rate and and finance as much of it as you want including closing costs and it is not considered a texas a6 cashout(assuming Texas as your profile says so)
My email is in my biography if you want more info on the renovation loan. Usually the best route to go depending on what your current interest rate is at.

Pools can be worth it for the homeowner, my wife loves ours, but with that said, I would never finance one.
